Another PRMC fail

Post by Gunn »

well i have just done my first PRMC, it was HORRIBLE! got through bottom field but injured my knee, didnt seem bad but by the next day walking was agony!!! got about 2 miles into the 3 miles and felt myself slowing down, eventually the pain of my knee and my fitness level made me slow down so much that the safety van pulled me in. Corporal Hill said my strength was above average but my CV was weak:

Bleep Test: 11.3
Press ups: 46
Sit ups: 59
pull ups: 5 (slipped)
Assualt course: 4mins 27 secs (a bad time but other people got worse)

I feel like a right tart and a failure, i thought joining the RM was my ultimate dream but now i have just done that i have my tail between my legs and thinking that maybe i havent got what it takes to be in Royal. Maybe i am feeling this because of tiredness and my fitness is not too great. I am going back for another PRMC in 3-6 months because i am not going to let it beat me but the thought of bottom field again!!! :x :o , if i pass i think i will join reserves though.

Tell me to mind my own business because I'm not a royal, but if you're going to stay down after being knocked down once, then maybe you're right. Maybe you haven't got what it takes. Why don't you get back up, dust yourself off, beast yourself with your cv training and go for it. Any doubts in your own mind could be your worst enemy. Just stop worrying and train. Nobody said it would be easy. How bad do you want it?

I was going to. It was a toss-up between RM or artillery. I wanted both, so I'm aiming to go for RA and do the commando course. I know I'll never be a royal that way, but i get the green lid, and I'm still part of a commando unit. I just love the heavy weaponry too much :D

Gunn i know what it feels like to fail as do other people, i failed on the run aswel due to a combonation of sickness and not enough preparation.

Giving up is the worst thing you can do as you will be questioning that desicion for a long time.

Like Si said if it was easy everyone would do it. its meant to be hard so that they can see if you got the graft to get through basic.

what i didnt after i failed was give yourself a week to recover think about what you want to do, if you want it go back and prove to your self you can do it.

3 chances at a dream ! the only true failure is when you fail to try again.

DONT GIVE UP

If it was easy then every tom, dick and harry would join the WORLDS BEST, its hard because its ment to be hard, just because you failed dont go and do what every other drop out did and go and join the Paras.................
On my PRMC in Dec 2001 there was this young 17 year old who failed as well, he was crap at everything, god knows why he ever went down, but the PTIs told him to go away for 6 months and train HARD, and im glad to say he did, when I was in training he came back for his PRMC,passed and passsed very well, he then went straight through training and is now with 42........ So train hard now and then you will sail through not only your PRMC but also your training as well......... Good LUCK, and stick with it............ ITS ONLY PAIN............

Thanks lads for the support, it helps a lot! i was actually thinking about joining the paras for a moment but i thought well i will be a green lid or nothing. i will beast myself in a few days time after my knee sorts itself out to sort my CV out, then i will start running with weighty clothes on to simulate bottom field and the run, do loads of hill sprints etc....

Sorry i thought u had to pass a PRMC to go to the reserves :-?, depriving someone else? what are you on about, they have PRMC's back to back now because they are low on numbers... i wouldnt be depriving someone else anyway there would only be a 3 day delay for them or something, but the courses arnt even full, my course had 30 on it where as there is meant to be 60 so dont give me that sticky please!

Yes Stix, don't give us that.
please get your facts straight before posting...and you a moderator as well :P

Gunn,
You would be depriving someone of a place because time and effort would have been invested in YOU. That time and effort would be better spent on someone who genuinely wanted to join the Corps, rather than someone who is only doing it to prove a point to themselves.
Hence, the reason you are depriving the genuine bod of a place because you have wasted everyones time....from the bods at the career office, to the paperwork filler-inners, to the training team. Thats a lot of time wasted on one person

don`t forget the money Loz, they will have to fork out on kit, and have to pay you to, "prove you can do it", if your Heart isn`t in it, Fark off. Your attitude sucks, you will be a part of a team, and that team will be depending on YOU, as YOU will be depending on THEM, and that starts from day one, not if you think you want to be a part of it. If you haven`t the HEART to wear the "Coveted Green", don`t waste peoples time, and as i`m a taxpayer, don`t farkin waste my money

Indeed Mr. Bootneck.
I remember being told that the average amount of dosh spent on a recruit from first putting forward the application to finishing basic was approx. £30,000....and that was way back then
Plus that was only your bog standard Army training...not RM's.

I can't belive some people saying dont go and join the paras, as if its easy to get a Maroon Lid. Disrespect in its highest form.

It's not disrespectful by any means, just the truth. Try CTC and see what we mean. 8)
