Travel in the navy
Travel in the navy
Right this my seem a dumb question at first but is there much opportunity to travel in the navy. I know that obviously by going on sea exercises you do but do you actually visi other countries and get time off while there. I know that the army and raf get to spend many months abroad because they have bases in those countries but do navy personnel and especially aircraft mechanics get to spend time in other countires or just in the sea outside the countries and if so how long is it usually.
Sailorboy,
Seems like the abacus pushers have taken this part of the RN away as well as all the other fun bits. Things started to go to Rat Shit in the early 70 when they introduced trickle drafting, which meant that half the crew didn't know each other, then the commissions became shorter as the money ran out so the likes of a good runs ashore and good trips around the world are few and far between. I guess the best ship to get aboard would still be the Endurance.
Aye
Mike

Sailorboy,
The RN goes to lots of places. Squadrons, which as an Aircraft Mechanic you will be part of, don't have to be attached to a ship to go abroad. Lots of the trips that squadrons do don't involve ships (which is a blessing believe me). Britain and Europe for the most part though I did visit the U.S. with the squadron and that was a blast.
You get the occasional weekend off (I got to go skiing in France and walking in the U.S.) but for the most part it is the same job in a different country. There will always be the social side of things though

There are are two kinds of people:
Those who say to god, "Thy will be done", and those to whom god says, "Alright then, have it your way".
