Royal Marines Training Question...

Post by SoDaR2004 »

Hello,

I was thinking about joining the Royal Maries in Oct-Nov of this year but i stumbled across something and might postpone it until Apr-May next year. I recently came across a web-page which is called "British Military Fitness" http://www.britmilfit.com/.

I was thinking of joining BMF for about a year, get my self in better fitness, shape and know what real military fitness is about to boot. Anyone recommend me doing this? It will cost the same as the Gym im at £35.00 per month for 2 classes per week. Also the great thing about this is they stage Events every month or so like Commando Training Centre, 30 Mile Yomps, Escape and Evasion, 3 Month Courses etc they are about £100-£200 which ain't half bad!!

So what do people think? I think it's a very good idea myself, i will be trained hard at these classes and to boot i can go on events. What do YOU think?? Cheers!!

You know you can do all that stuff and get paid for it! Seriously, why would you want to do all that before you actually join.

Reason i want to join this club is because i am an unfit person, i just want a bit of reassurance that i am fit for the job before i go to the Careers Office. Plus the BMF has trainers from the Army, Territorial Army and the Royal Marines. It will give me a taste of whats it like to be "Military Fit" plus seeing they are serving/ex corps doing these classes/events maybe i can get some good tips too.

IMO i don't see the harm in actually having a crack at this, was just wondering what other people thought about the idea really. Still pondering :)

It does sound fun and if you have money to burn, i'd go and try it out. There is method in Sticky's madness though. You need to get out by yourself and train. It's easy going for a run when there's someone shouting at you to do so, but when you're by yourself it's all to easy too say stuff it and go have a beer or something! In regards to knowing when you'll be fit enough, you can just compare yourself with some of the lads on this site that have passed PRMC or further.

Aye true, but seeing as it is only 2 classes per week in the area i live in, i will fill the gpas in by training on my own. I did run on my own for a while but i found myself getting bored. BUT i finally have a mountain bike, so when im not in the BMF classes such as Mon, Wed, Fri i can vary between running and biking. Hopefully after a year of doing this and eating heathy, which i am doing now, i should have a increased my chances of getting into the Marines *fingers crossed*.

Well as i always say - i can only get better if i keep at it!! :)

The RM have years of experience of training recruits. If you want it bad enough you will do it on your own.
Do you really want to join? If you say yes, save your money and show how determined you are to get in by doing it yourself. Forget the gym, read the forums, Crunch the miles and sprint until your eyes bleed.
sticky has hit the nail staright on the head im a royal marine recruit! before i joined i used a gym but trained on my own for 6 months solid! 5 times a week i was in the gym training for 3 hours a day if you want it you will get it! i used to weigh 18 stone and was a 44 inch waist! and look at me now im in the royal marines! its called hard work that gets you there!!!
ex nod was diagnosed with chronic compartment syndrome rejoining eventually.

currently in australia as im traveling the world before i rejoin the marines.

Well like the guy says he's going to use the BMF club to get himself on his way, sort of like HIS gym. Where as you went every day for 3hrs he's going to train with ex service men to get himself fit.

I think if you have the money you should do it. Even though its a club YOU still have to put the effort in.

Why is it all the know alls come out with al lthe 'well you can do all this and get paid for it if you join' nonsence? All that it is a great fitness organisation. My mate goes to BMF and he says it is really good and has helped him loads in his fitness for the TA.
I think it's a great idea and you should go for it. It is great preparation for the kind of fitness you will be doing IF you get in. You will meet proper military PTIs, and maybe some RM PTIs, so go for it, it's a GREAT idea.
Nothing worth doing is ever easy.
