Glad someone else is in the same position as me.
It's a bit intimidating reading posts that suggest a workout including 20+ pullups in total when you can only do a couple.

I'm not too worried though, I went to my local RMR detachment last week and aparently the next selection isn't until September. So I think I'll build up gradually.

Another way to improve the muscles used when doing pull ups(besides actually doing them) is to find two ledges about 1.5 metres off the ground and slightly wider than shoulder width. Support yourself by placing your hand's on the ledges/bars and raise your legs(raise your feet to your arse) then simply raise and lower yourself as far as you can without collapsing. I use the I'M A SCAMMER SPAMMER!!! work tops :D Alternatives are: 2 chairs/tables,corner of a trolley 'pen',corner of a brick wall or a kid's playground( theres something there for any work out,its a free colourfull gym :D )

Also wrap a towel around the pull up bar and pull yourself up using the towel. Same grip as normal over hand grip with both arms sholder width apart. Because you are pulling yourself up higher you are increasing the volume of your back muscles.
You may be disappointed if you fail,
but you are doomed if you don’t try.

If you join a gym there should be a pull up machine, which adds weights for ease (the more weight, the easier the pull up). But the basic rule is, just do pull ups whenever you can.

Try lots of different barbell, dumbell and body weight exercises to develop your biceps, triceps, lats, pecs, abs, trapezius, deltoids, upper back, lower back, etc, and you should be doing more of them in no time. Chin ups are also a good exercise, while rowing will give you a lot of arm endurance.

I used to have one of them argos bars in the doorframe but when I moved to my dads house the walls were paper thin and door frames weak.. I had to improvise and make my own in the garage. It looks very very sketchy but its sturdy and strong (I hope  )

a good way to build up ur muscles for chin ups is to hold the bar and jump up so you hav completed a chin up without effort and really slowly lower yourself down until you're hanging as a dead weight. Its slightly easier and do some of them will really do some good stuff.
you hav to do them slowly!!!
