Fitness before Foundation?
Fitness before Foundation?
I was wondering what you guys who have passed PRMC and start training are doing training wise and what scores you want prior to Foundation...
i am looking to start training after summerleave due to a holiday.
Talking to a lad who was in the middle of training he stated he did a circuit of
50 press ups
50 tricep dips
50 inclined pull ups
and a lot of other things times two
so before i start foundation i am looking to..
100 press ups in two sets
100 tricep dips in two sets
100 inclined pull ups in two sets
10 pull ups easy - around 13 - 14 maximum
6 miles in 45 - 50 minutes
i am also looking into taking weight gain forumlas and stuff as i am a skinny wrench and am looking to get some meat before training
any tips or comments would be most welcomed.

im underweight as it is i think...11stoneish (72kg) and 6 foot 2 but yet i am quite strongs bench press over 100kg and what not yet am still thin as hell..my theory was put weight on and yet increase scores and stregth...would this make training easier or harder?

Yup, if you're doing stuff to warrant extra muscle then you'll get heavier, like during training most put on a good bit of weight. No point putting on extra fat before you go, one thing you're given plenty of at CTC is food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner then 6 o'clockers and you can have as much as you want.
Ran your weight through a BMI calc and it came with with 20 (sub 18.5 being underweight), so looks like you're ok.
You'll put on 100lbs+ at certain times in training and i'm sure the training team will help you gain some "extra" weight also if you're feeling abit underweight.

ahh thats alright then, i was thinking maybe its easier to crarry the 100lb+ bergans if your already bigger, i dont know why but it seems logical as me...
im going to get use to rope climbing and improve my CV by the time i go back down...looking for end of july now i think after realising civvie life is boring dull and the laugh i had a CTC due to the hard times we had where to much of an attraction to keep putting off!
going ACFO on monday or ring them looking for july 26th time if theres a troop, get me out of foundation before summer leave!

I dunno really, might be true to an extent. If you're a big guy your muscles are used to carrying you around so abit more weight might be easier, but in the long the skinny guy's muscles will adapt due to training. At that stage the big guy (whether fat or having uneccessary muscle bulk) will be in reality carrying the 100lb bergen + the extra 50lbs of uneeded muscle and the skinny guy will only have to carry 100lbs.ahh thats alright then, i was thinking maybe its easier to crarry the 100lb+ bergans if your already bigger, i dont know why but it seems logical as me...
yeh i geuss when your doing the maths the skinny guy will be carrying less so...easier but on the other hand you have the same training so it works its self out i geuss...
one thing i am taking a sh*t load of is zinc oxide tape, its like concrete on your feet, blisters are almost impossible with that stuff on as i found out on prmc!! mate who complete YO training recommended and though give it a whirl..its unreal!
Jagger, if i may, what scores did you get on PRMC? and when you started training? i understand PRMC may have been different then just a rough guide would be good to help me know where i need to be at.
i know i need more CV and lower leg work, going to do 1 run a week just two miles or so with boots and bergan just to get my body fit, nothing teasing to save from injury. I know its unadvised but still going to do it...

My PRMC was 5 pullups 46 pushups 94 situps and 12.8 on the bleep.
I was pretty much the same when I started training, had to cut down on running for a month beforehand due to shinsplints.
Never really used the ZO tape myself as I never got blisters which i'm thankful for but others swear by it. They issue you loads of tape in training though, or they did at least.
Your scores are pretty good, if you keep your fitness at that level or ideally increase it you'll be fine. If you pass PRMC you're fit enough to start basic, so don't worry that you might need to be fitter. Definitely try to get fitter none the less though!

speaking of blisters, i've heard of a rather extreme but apparently very effective way of fixing them. Putting a thing layer of superglue on the blister. Appparently then u can't feel any rubbing at all, it's like a man made calous and the blister just heals underneath. Apparently hikers have been doin it for years. I just not sure how u get it off afterwards. 
Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

Another interesting application is the use of cyanoacrylate to close wounds in place of stitches. Researchers found that by changing the type of alcohol in super glue, from ethyl or methyl alcohol to butyl or octyl, the compound becomes less toxic to tissue. With further research, the practice may become more widespread and could eventually replace the need for stitching up lacerations.
