PRMC insight/advice

Post by Una »

Is there anybody out there who could tell me if the PRMC carries any committment if you pass or fail it? Reason being is i've always fancied joining the marines but like many other prats decided not to for the sake of a girl! Further down the road i'm now in a well paid/secure job which I enjoy but feel like I've missed out by not joining up. Was just wondering if the PRMC can be under taken by people who want to give it a go to see if it's for them and if it isn't walk away no hassles. Also what steps need to be taken before you can attend the PRMC.
Any advice and info would be appreciated!

Cheers Una

If your excepted at PRMC you will be asked/offered there and then, if you want to say no, it's your choice But saying no would make you look like a time waster if you did (places limited on PRMC and you would have deprived someone of a place).

If you pass, you go into next troop, if you don't you come back after minimum time period. To say no thanks when offered would screw the system and you would have to redo PRMC (if they let you again) to prove you are still capable and wanting!

If you want to, then make the comittment from the start! You'd be better off and more committed then

I don't think there are any set numbers to be passed/failed on PRMC Skiffle. If you make the grade, you get in, they can fail everyone if they don't come up to scratch and also pass everyone. PRMC is supposed to be an acqaint course, to allow the marines to have a look at you, but also for the potential recruit to sample marine life and see what they are all about. I do think however that you should know for sure if you want to join the marines before you do PRMC. There's not much to understand about it, training is extremely hard and the reward is being apart of one of the most respected fighting forces in the world, chances to travel and all the rest. Maybe try joining the RMR or other TA units to get an impression of what military life is about.

You sign NO contract at PRMC, you can pull out 1 day before basic training if you want. You don't sign anything and aren't sworn in untill you get to CTC for training.

Cheers for the advice. Some fair points! The RMR is something I have looked into and like you said Jagger will give be a decent insight. The way things are I think that would be my best bet!

If you pass, they send out a form in the post offering you a place at CTC on such and such a date, you tick accept or decline, and send it back. You're still not committed at that point I don't think. However, if you show up on day 1 of training, you have to stay for at least 4 weeks before you can leave...then you can leave at any point in the following 5 months.
