Since i was young i wanted to join the Royal Marines, and now, im starting to consider joining. firstly, im an Australian, my step father is British, ive been to England many a time. I am a Uni student studying engeening.

I want to be an Officer, but my problem is, i read on the Royal Marines web site that you need to be a British citizen to join as an Officer, but then it goes on to say that the MOD can allow people or give exemption to this, i just want to know if these exemptions are a buracratic thing, or whether it is based on merit, and if so, what are the criteria for that merit. i would also like to know, if there are ways i could go about getting the skills or the like to get these exemptions.
