How Far Have You Got?

Post by TomW »

Obviously Everyone on here is at different stages of training etc so just out of interest I was wondering where you lot are all at in terms of actually "Joining the Royal Marines"

At the minute I can do 45 Press ups 56 sit ups (in 2 minutes each)

I can manage 4 Pull ups and Run 1½ miles in 10:27 (on a running machine).

I haven't been to the AFCO yet because Im doing my A-Levels at the minute (extremely boring) so I don't really have any time to go up and see them.

So anyways how far have you lot got?

I can achieve just over the maximums on the gym tests now but my running is letting me down big time. My fault I suppose as I ran through shin splints because I didnt know what they were at the time and ended up with two badly fractured shins!

I haven't even applied yet and dont intend to until I can run 3miles in under 20minutes again

i can do 47 push ups, 50 sit ups, 4 chins and can do the 1.5mile run in 10:56, when i can run 3 miles in 22.5 mins ill go straight down the AFCO. (its currently just under 25mins - and i mean just under! 24:57)

I am currently going through the recruitment process for the army but as im only 20 i feel i may as well give the marines a good go, give it 110%. and if i cant achieve the fitness ill continue with the army.

Can run mile in a half in 8.43 in trainers and on road, 9.12 treaders (find it harder for some reason, seems kinda cramped).

Pushups at last maximum was 36 situps 52, but still building (there was a post somewhere about using a deck of playing cards with pushups and situps which i found has helped - i have named it the deck of death :) )

4 Pullups also for me - im abit scrawny (although i weigh 12.5 stone at 6foot) at the moment, but hoping within a month with hard work i should be over maximums.

I want to call AFCO to get my prmc date when i can run five miles in 35 minutes, by advisement of the AFCO.

Feel free to add me to msn if anyone wants to talk training or wotever.

Currently I can manage 70 sit-ups, 5 pull-ups and only 22 push-ups!!

Unfortunately for some reason my push-ups have just taken longer to come on, but I'm sure they will pick up soon.

My 1.5 mile time is around 11.30, but I'm confident I will get under 11 minutes over the next couple of weeks.

I'm aiming for a PJFT in May, and if all goes to plan a PRMC around August/September.

However this may all be academic because my eyesight is borderline, so my medical will be the key.

3 miles=not sure yet!

Anyone going to Rosyth on 21st April for fitness assesment with Edinburgh AFCO?

Guys just to make sure you're all doing press ups right, for the RM you'll be asked to do them elbows in i.e. you're arms do not go out towards the side but simply back towards your feet, if you do a search for this you will see a post on it, it's simply that the RM method works the triceps more & if I'm honest I neglected my triceps in previous training so found them bloody hard currently I can crack out about 30 before my arms simply give out, but I've gotten into the habit of sucking it up and breaking that mental barrier & getting 1 or 2 more, if sloppy, ones done. I must seem insane to anyone who may be watching but to do this I shout at myself & insult myself, crazy, but works, i expect no less from the PTIs lets put it that way!

Remember fellas its not all about hitting the maximums. Make sure that when you do a three miler to push out as many press ups as you can a hold that positions. reason being, on your PRMC after the 3 miler they do 10 to 1. Not very nice when your hanging.

Seems wierd but the way i got the form for pushups correct was by imagining there is a mirror on the floor, and by placing my thumbs half way across where my pecs are.... little tip if anyone is not sure.

Yeah you got it there. They hammered us with that and had us holding the positions too. Try not to make any noises or signs that your in pain the PTI will just make you hold it longer. I was laughing during this and when my corporal interviewed me he couldnt understand why i was laughing.. :)

Sounds nice!! I'm currently hitting 40 press-ups, 60 sit-ups in 2 min (I can't seem to do them any faster whilst keeping the correct form, but I can only get another 5 or so after that before I die anyhow), 7 pull ups, not done 1.5 miles for ages, PJFT was 9.09 though, 3 miles in 17.43 (roughly - I've measured the route I run with GPS, and it's given me results between 2.85 and 3.12 miles so far...)...got PRMC in 3 weeks, confident of passing, I know I can just switch off and put the work in when required, so I WILL NOT wrap.
