B of M,

Perhaps you would like to clarify, as you seem to infer that you were a member of the SBS!
It dos'nt really matter what I was or was'nt in my time, I like others just feel its a duty to ask questions about those who come right out with "I was in so and so unit"

Do you claim to be a former member of the SBS, or one of the hangers on? Perhaps you failed the course?

As you will understand, "I like others just feel its a duty to ask questions about those who infer that they were in the SBS."

Rover,
I always thought the motto of the Parachute School was,
Knowledge Dispels Fear. I'm getting on a bit so thats my excuse.

Point taken, but as I said it matters little about what I used to do, you are what you are and there's no changing that. I joined this site to maybe get in touch with old opo's and I've already had comms with people who may have been around about the same time, its good for that.

Woah. Didn't mean to cause any offence; stirred up a right shit storm.

It is just my opinion. It was rash, and i apologise for that. But at the end of the day its an internet forum, and if some mouthy pre-service shite is giving his tuppence-worth - who the f@#k cares?

So I don't reckon he is. So what? It seems the people getting irate about it are the ones who aren't actually in the forces!!!

I don't trust many people, and i like it that way. Why should we beleive some random bloke on the internet!!??

He could be, and sounds like he very well may be; but it takes a lot to convince me, and i'm sure if he is the real deal he wouldn't give a flying f**k. And Rover, i do apologise for not explaining myself and being rash, but i think to go to the extent of PMing me, and telling me apologise etc. is going a little far. I think my scepticism will serve me well in the forces, not an immediate reaction to beleive someone writing on the internet.

Why does it bother you so much to go to the trouble of PMing me etc.? if he was, he knows it, and why should he care if us lot don't beleive it.

Well, thats the lot.

Hello got1,

Correct, getting two mixed up.

As told to me by a member of the RAF;

"If you drop from 2,000ft and your chute deploys you will arrive safely on the ground between 30 and 45 seconds depending on weight and wind etc.

Knowledge Dispels Fear

But if you drop from 2,000ft and you have a complete malfunction, you will be on the ground in 6 seconds.

A Little Knowledge is a Dangerous Thing!!!!

Mike B

Re my PM to you;

" Hello Mike,

Checking the SC**2 post you are now aware that Sneaky was a member of the SBS.
B of M is the 'Walter' and always has been.

As you were so quick to speak out in public against Sneaky may I suggest that a public apology is in order.

We all make mistakes and learning from experience is something we all do.
I trust this experience will be of benifit in your service career, should you still wish to take that path.

Regards
Rover"

I do not think I was 'telling' you I thought I was making a suggestion!
I thought I was being rather polite about the whole thing.

May I draw your attention to your remark about Sneaky;
"You are a living joke"
Think about it.

b of m,

I note you have no wish to commit yourself an answer my question as to your status regarding the SBS.

If you were in the SBS why did you not PM Sneaky as it would seen you would know each other?

Why did you not PM Sticky and ask him to verify Sneaky?

Why do you sound just like Hawkeye?

Why not PM Sticky with your service details, perhaps then you may have some credibility as a former service member?

As davo141 points out why do you and Mike B seem the same?

Just remembered another motto I came across,

" In God we trust all others we monitor"

And before anyone corrects me on this, yes I know there is a word missing. 8)

Ha ha...ok ok...I give up Rover....I apologise entirely.

To be fair this is an internet forum, things can easily get confused and you can't take things too seriously; but i can see why you might be annoyed.

I can say 100% I am not the same person as bucket of milk.

Put an end to this?

I must correct the scurrilous slur that Sneaky Beaks "was" a former member of SB. :o

Nothing could be further from the truth

He still is a former member :P
And long may he remain so 8)

Harry.

What I said was that Sneaky "was a member of the SBS".
Perhaps I should have said 'was an active member of the SBS'!

I think you may find Sneaky will have a 'tot'.

Are my ears burning or what.!! Being talked about so much is a bit scary.
Mike_B does have a point - that most SF guys do not go around broadcasting the fact that they were.
I was just browsing the forum one night and found something that was just crying out to be corrected and stated that I had been SBS. That was a mistake and I was a bit naive (and probably a little in my cups!) for saying it - but was done to emphasise a point. I was new to these forums and contrary to all military training, had not done a proper or thorough recce!!!
As he also says, I don't mind being called a Walter! I've been called a lot worse in my time.

BoM
You answered my question very well. My only reservation is that you could have got all your info. from a book or the internet. There is also little minor discrepancies that let you down. So if you don't mind, I will reserve my judgement.
You mention that you were hoping to meet a couple of guys from your era and in fact that you had already been in touch with a few. If you let me know what your era was I could perhaps put you in touch with a few more. You could have a reunion!! But I suspect that it won't be the SBS one!!

Thank you my ex-pat friend! Yes I am still in the land of living and still a former *** !!! member. It is a tot but of the white variety with just a touch of coke!

The RAF person who gave Rover his information must have been talking about another countrys methods, in 14 years of military parachuting, including APJI course at Brize Norton I have never jumped from 2000 ft . 800 ft in daylight 1000 ft in dark. THese days its lower .....

Rover was obviously talking about Water Jumps. These were done from about 1200 ft. so obviously Rover has got that wrong. (Does that mean he is a Walter!!) That was to give you a chance to get out of your harness and get into your seat strap prior to entering the water.
