Navy Accomadation

Post by CrouchmasterT »

Can anyone tell me anything about the accomadation for navy ratings, im in the selection process for an artificer and have only got the PJFT left. I know obviously at Raleigh its Barracks with 20 or so other guys but what about after this, is it the same or are you in smaller or even seperate rooms.

Thanks in advance :D

You will get a four or six man mess in most establishments. Shared heads and showers, there are sometimes limited I'M A SCAMMER SPAMMER!!! facilities shared between about a dozen messdecks, just depends where you go. Onboard ship, of course, it is back to the good old 21 man messdecks. Now that Fearless is gone, the messdecks onboard are pretty smart. When you reach the dizzy height of Killick, (which you no doubt will, very rapidly as a 'tiff'!) You generally get a single cabin. You still have to share ablutions etc, but you can shut your door on the rabble.

The only problem with RN accommodation is nightly rounds. Normally 1930hrs.

Rounds only happen in two places (that I know of!)

On-board ship - Every night, regular as clockwork unless theres a pipe to scrub rounds(pardon the pun).

In training - Just to add that little bit more pressure. I don't know if its the same now but when I went through Raleigh the classleaders and deputies had to stand rounds (and get the bollockings)

I suppose they had to change it sometime. It was an excuse that quite a lot of people were giving, lack of personal space. People tend to be able to accept it on board ship but want something more when they are shore side. I think that the crabs have had it for a while so we're only just coming into line. There was a lot of new accom at Heron as I was leaving.

What are nightly rounds?
The accomodation sounds like the halls of residence at my uni, which are okay except for the paper thin walls

Where the duty senior rate and the duty officer comes round and inspects the conditions of the accom. Everything is expected to be very clean. Floors polished, brass gleaming, all surfaces dust free, all mirrors without smears, etc. Its a pain in the arse but once you're out of training you don't really get rounds..........until you get captains rounds. Fun!
