Anyone using Creatine?

Post by james_m »

I have been going to a gym for about 8 months now and am thinking of starting a course of creatine. Was wondering if anyone out there was or has been using creatine. Is it worth the money? What were the improvements?
Heard it has some side effects such as explosions in the toliet area!!
Is this true?

Cheers

I would recommend a good protein supplement as well. Creatine will help you train longer and harder and protein will in turn build the muscle that you have achieved by working out. If you are into building muscle then it is really worth looking into.

creatine and protein suppliments will help u to build up lots of muscle quickly, but to be honest i would have thought that someone training for the marines wouldn't want lots of muscle. You just need to be strong but also quite lean so that you can do the running well. If you are doing weight lifting then in my opinion the most beneficial thing to do would be strength training (i.e low weight, high reps). That would result in gains in strength and minimal gains in muscle mass, which means you are stronger without making running more difficult for yourself. Remember for every pound extra of muscle you carry you might as well be carrying a slightly heavier bergan on your back during your runs.

Regarding the Creatine debate - Consider this

You take it and it enables you to work harder and longer.

You feel stronger because you have taken it.

If you do not take it you will feel that you do not have the same strength and endurance.

There may be no difference in the contition of your body but metally you will feel different.

If you stop taking Creatine then you can attribute all the hard work and extra graft you have put in to yourself and no one or nothing else.

It is all mental my friend.

Wise words Scooter.

Bottom line is that creatine only helps strength and power gains. It will have absolutely no effect on endurance. So why bother taking it when training for RM is all about endurance?

Thank you.

One other thing. Creatine will not make you bigger.

In the short term you will see increases in muscle mass.

This is only because Creatine retains more water in your muscle. Soon as you stop taking it the water will leave and muscle mass will drop.

In short. Drop it.

What I say is shy away from all the science behind fitness and just do some good hard work.

Mentally and physically you will be at the top of your game. You can then claim all the credit for your hard work - Why give credit that you earned to some supplement?

Long term use of Creatine will damage your kidneys and it will cause water retention, so be careful.
FAR AWAY SO CLOSE!

Thats kind of true, although not actually confirmed by research yet.

As Scooter said ditch all the science and just get down to some graft. You only need to consider supplements if you're not getting enough energy/nutrients in your diet through lifestyle pressures.

a pint of guiness and a packet of chips after every training session should help!!!

But seriously, i've just passed my POC and during my training in the run up to it i was using Cell Teck creatine and then switched to Cyclone (all in one, protein, creatine, etc, etc) If you do take supplements make sure to take a good daily multivitamin as well, Quest multinutrients are very good as they have a timed release so you get the benefits all day.

Supplements will help ur training and help your body to replenish and repair itself quicker. It's true what some of the lads have said about the fact that if you want to pass enough then you will, but I think the ridiculous suggestions that you should do it "the hard way" should best be ignored. Water helps you train, what do you suggest? We don't drink so we can say we passed "the hard way." Sorry if this seems like a rant, but it just pisses me off that suggestions are made that you shouldn't take every oppurtunity and any product (before anyone says it, yes i only mean the legal ones) that could possibly enable you to achieve your goal of being selected for Royal Marines.

Cheers Westy
