Common Sense

Post by ashley »

So I had a little pain in my lower back before I went asleep last night. I woke up this morning and it had increased. Not so much painful, but annoying.

My training pattern involves training on week days, with 'active' rest on Wednesday and complete rest on Saturday and Sunday. However, because of this pain in my lower back I've decided to have a rest today, and still have the weekend off. This won't have any effect on my CV will it?

I ask because I've got my PJFT in a few weeks. Though I did do 2 miles in 12:30 on Friday :D

Cheers,

Though regarding the pain in my lower back, anyone have any idea what could cause that?

You might have simply just torqued your back in the wrong direction. If it doesn't clear up soon, I would consider seeing a doctor.

Id go and see a Physiotherapist rather than a doctor. Your GP will ask you what is wrong, whereas the Physio will tell you what is wrong, what has caused it, and what stretches etc to do to sort it.

I had lower back pain for ages, couldnt shake it, it came on every time i ran, and the distance of my runs went from 10 miles, down to 2 miles before i had to stop with the back ache!

It turned out i had tight hamstrings, which caused the back pain.......a few more stretches and i'm back to running without problems.

Get the physio to ck your hams, and your hip flexors and abductors, but if it just suddenly came on, it just sounds like you tweaked something, give it 3 or 4 days rest and ease back into it.

best of luck

a lower back problem could be all diferent types of things. would reccomend seeing a physio although they tend to be expensive, but well worth it. doctors just waste your time as there not really specialised in sports injuries..

I had a similar problem with lower back pain. Think in my case it was caused by doing sit-ups with my feet wedged under something, which puts extra strain on your lower back.

If I were you i'd just rest for upto a week and if the pain is still there, consider seeing a physio.
