A large piece of paper with old fashioned writing saying the Queen has appointed you to be an officer. Lovely piece of kit, mine is framed and hangs on the wall.

does the queen or someone important present it or is it more of a tradtional thing where it means more than it is?

and what rank did you reach chunky? in SAS and before/after?

As sticky says it is ceremonially pushed through your letter box in a plain cover and a second class stamp.

When I left I had passed my Captains exam and was waiting for my third pip.

Do not believe the rumours that I left just before promotion to avoid a hefty bar bill !!
