I am 32 and thinking of joining the Royal Navy as a "TIFF".
I have gone through the first part of the apptitude test and will be sitting the "Tiff" maths test in a couple of weeks.
The next intake is January and I have to be on it if I am going to do it.
Anyone out there think that I am too old or do you think I should think of age as "only a number" and go for it?
Any comments.
Anyone else out there in my position or gone through the same situation as me?

Alright Mate,
I will be 27 by the time I go into the Navy in November. I figure I'm going to be one of the old blokes but its not something that puts me off.
I can't see how my age will be a bad thing. The way I see it if you can get on well with others then there won't be any problems.
Also when I went for my medical I met a couple of guys in their late 20s and a 30 yr old. So I don't think you'll be the only older bloke. Personaly I think you should go for it, even if you decide its not for you (there's an option to leave during training) at least you will have looked into it first hand.

dodger,
i wouldn't worry too much about your age - especially if you get in as a tiff. assuming you pass your tiffs course and your trade exams you'll be a PO inside 5 years, most PO tiffs then get their chiefs a few years later - so if all goes to plan you should be a chief somewhere around your 40th birthday with about 13 years to go - you might make WO but for tiffs from here on its dead mans shoes - but you'll be on a tidy wage and a decent pension to look forward to.
