Hey guys,
I have a quick question for any duel British citizens who've applyed for the RM from abroad. Have any of you had to send confirmation of non-obligation for military service with your original country be it Canada, Australia or whatever? I've been told I have to send one, but i'm not sure if they are confused as to my citizenship. Also, if you had to send one, would a letter from your local AFCO be sufficient?
Cheers,
Josh.

Joshualoftus,
I'm applying from Canada, and I have dual nationality as well. I was talking to Jesse (who just started at Lympstone this past Saturday), one of the members on the forum, and he said yes, you do need to provide documentation confirming you are free from military obligations in your non-British country. He also mentioned that the process can be a bit like pulling teeth (here in Canada anyway). I would imagine that a letter from the local recruiting centre/AFCO would suffice. Jesse's sent me a copy of the letter he used, so I can have an idea of what exactly is required and what I need to request. I could pass it along if you'd like, unless someone here can get you the info you're looking for first (which is likely, so many wily veterans and all the info you could want on this site!)
cheers,
Matt
