Questions for some COMMANDOS

Post by grahamanderson »

HI any RMCommandos out there could tell me the following

1) obviously the minimum fitness standards for the marines(selection) Should be ignored. my question is what are some good scores to hope for eg running and pushups situps pull ups etc?(because i know i should do better than the minimum)

2)do the rm have a permanent base etc. in the jungle?

3)this is kind of a stupid question but i know a lot of people wo have been to england and they say the food is Sh*t. so what is the food like in the marines(i only ask cuz i am an aussie).

4)do they do counter terrorism training or is that left up to the SBS or SAS

and last one

5)do they do language training in the marines

sorry about the questions i am new :)

thanks guys

Well I'll try:

1) Best rule of thumb is to train to reach double what the maximums are - in the running stuff aim for 5 min miles - look, don't panic you probably won't be able to do this (i couldn't) but it gets you training to your maximums each time - which is what you need to fully experience a degree of the physical pain you will experience at CTC.

2) Not as such - there is a jungle warfar camp out in Brunei but its not a RM camp - although RM's can apply to serve there.

3) Well i guess it depends on where you eat - the food in the Corps can hardly be described as haute-cusine. You could do me a favour though and tell as many of your country men/women that UK food is so sh*te its best not to go there - recommend they go to France instead.

4) CRW training is undertaken by UKSF, elements of RM do bits here and there and there's always the NI deployments but if you mean running around in black kit looking like a mincer then yes its sas/sbs

5) No as a matter of course but you can do this when you get to a unit- usually self study with help from the unti education officer - if you are lucky you may get on one of the language courses run for UK forces.
