Hi Matt, DON'T SHOUT please. You will awaken all the wrinklies asleep in here.
I'm not sure about being a PTI in the Royal Marines, however, someone will have the knowledge on here. Within the Army you cannot join directly as a PTI or the APTC (Army Physical Training Corps), you first have to attend and pass a Regiment PTI course then apply for the APTC.
Most qualifications are worthwhile taking in life in my view, but will probably not put you ahead of the game in terms of gaining promotion.

No qualifications are needed. To be a PTI you simply ask ask your CO to be put on that course. Its like deciding to be a Mountain Leader, same principle applies to becoming a PTI, you start the course, get beasted to hell and back and then its time for you to get your own back.
There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count & those who can't.

To be a RM PTI you must first pass your JNCO course. Takes about 3 years before you can be considered to have had enougth of a trainning background to be a JNCO.
Before you even think about going for a PTI qualification you should complete a prospective PTI's course to see if it suits you.

Why can't you accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

I remember a RMR PTI telling us he went through a kind of 'tarring and feathering' ceremony after passing his PTI's course. The other PTI's never had any tar, so used 'green paint' instead.Skiffle wrote:Before you even think about going for a PTI qualification you should complete a prospective PTI's course to see if it suits you.

You'd think wouldn't you ? The guy preferred a full head of hair compared to the 'bullet head' lookrabby wrote:Didn't the thought occur to him that the clippers might be good idea, then a nice sharp razor? Then some boot polish to finish it off.

I do recall about 5 years back the press got hold of some photo's of a PTI batch who had all been painted green, don't know weather they still carry out the ritual of the last batch inducting the next batch into the PTI branch.I remember a RMR PTI telling us he went through a kind of 'tarring and feathering' ceremony
