Condor,

You are partly right. Two aircraft flew to the north to confuse the British task force. They were only spotted when they were about 12 miles out and appeared on the horizon.

They launched their exocets at the carrier - but the exocet guidance system detected a larger target (the Atlantic Conveyor) and locked onto that instead.

Talk about inaccurate numbers is irrelevant, really. Argentinian forces invaded (occupied, if you like) the Falklands (Malvinas). The British arrived and kicked them out. End of story. (almost)

20 years later we're still there. At some point, no doubt, politicians will agree to hand over the islands, introduce joint sovereignty or some other compromise. At the end of the day, Argentinian politicians keep the people 'wound up' about the islands on a nationalistic basis. In reality, they couldn't care less about them. All they want are the mineral (oil) and fishing rights in the area.

She took so long to come home for the same reason she took so long to get there in the first place. Before she had even left port in the UK there was a problem with the prop, or gearbox or something, can't remember the whole story...

Argentinian people ( I don´t want to talk about politicians) don´t care about oil or ships rights... We care about our pride...the one that you stole in the year 1833
Do you think that all the people that went out to the streets in 2 april fo 1982 because of the oil...do you think that we are like Bush??

When the French landed in 1764 there was no permanent settlement on the Falkands, the Spanish then forced out the French citing the papal Treaty of Tordesillas. The Spanish then forced out a British presence on West Falkland, the British finally moving out in 1774, though they (the British) KEPT their territorial claim to the Islands.

In the late 1820’s, nearly a decade after independence, Buenos Aires sent Louis Vernet to the Falklands to claim governorship, in 1831 he pissed off the Elmers who promptly levelled Port Louis. Vernet scurried back to Buenos Aires leaving a token force behind who were then expelled by the British in1833.

So, historically at least, the British had prior claim before 1774, at which time Argentina wasn’t an independent nation. :fist:

First of all Spitz why are you insulting me??? Do I say something wrong??? Please be a little more mature...ok? war is over!!!
1764: First colony in the Islands...FRENCHS
1766: Spain kick out the French 1776: Spain created the “Virreinato del Rio de la Plata” and the capital was Buenos Aires. The Virreinato included the Malvinas. When Argentina got the Independence automatically all the territories of the Virreinato belongs to Argentina ( International Rights)
1811: Spain leaves the Islands because they need troops to fight against Argentina (in 1810 we get free)
1816: Independence of Argentina and claims the Islands
1820: First Argentinean government in the Islands.
1825: ENGLAND ACCEPTED ARGENTINIAN INDEPENDENCE…SO THE ACCEPT THAT THE MALVINAS ARE PART OF THE ARGENTINEAN TERRITORIE
1833: The British empire invaded the Malvinas…Kick out by force the Argentinean people
Frank S. :What I mean was that also with the Islands you stole our pride...
Rabby: It took 3 weeks to get to the Malvinas, and the took a few months to come back

Condor

I think you've just highlighted my point. Argentinian politicians have put forward a patriotic argument and the people have fallen for it. If there was the will, the people could test the government on this issue. Offer the British government all mineral and fishing rights around the Falklands/Malvinas in return for Argentinian sovereignty.

I think:
a) the British government would quickly find ways to hand over the islands

BUT

b) the Argentinian government wouldn't make the offer in the first place. They want the mineral rights. And they'll keep on with the 'patriotic' argument to try and get them.

But, you'll probably know the saying "No se gano Zamora en una hora"

Who knows, one day, ....maybe!?
