airborne forces association

Post by chunky from york »

Joining the forum has reminded me that I untended to join the York branch of the Airborne Forces Association, but it is another entry in the long 'List of ThingsTo Do' that my wife and two daughters carefully keep up to date.

The guy who was last prodding me to do this died last week and I dont feel like ringing his wife and saying 'you don't know me, but......'

A search of Google was no good, except for the New Zealand branch!

So can anyone out their help me with a contact either for York or a National one.

Hmm, I couldn't find anything explicitly airborne forces association offhand, but this site site does have a couple of links which might point you in the right direction (the ones under airborne sites look useful); perhaps the site owners may be able to help?

Airborne Forces Association

Post by chunky from york »

Thanks to Voodoo Sprout and especially twenty one rang D. Mellors who is connected with the Airborne Forces Display at Eden Camp, near Malton N.Yorks. He gave me the phone number of Joe Mundy, secretary of the York Parachut Regiment Association.

It would seem that when the Para moved to Colchester the Parachute Regiment Association, took over the Airborne Forces Association, and it no longer exists as a seperate entity (explains why Google was no good).

He is sending me the forms to send off to the PRA and I will be considered for Associate membership, then I can attend the meetings in York, or elsewhere.

I should, perhaps, clarify why I am so keen to join the York branch. Because I know it meets at Imphal Bks and I live a couple of miles from there in Walmgate. York is so ancient and is so anti- car that my wife and I decided to live in the centre of York and not have a car.

However my Kidneys failed first week of 1995 and although the brilliant staff at Jimmy's in Leeds managed to save me and keep me alive on Haemodialysis (it was touch and go for a while). The best that can be said about haemodialysis is that it keeps you alive. Long term it causes problems. one of these was not spotted early (overactive parathyroids), and long delays waiting for then to be removed surgically (twice), led to a very high phosphate levels that also give high calcium levels. Unfortunately the calcium has blocked or narrowed a lot of veins and arteries in my legs, so the blood supply is not too good and I can only walk about 75 to 100 metre before I have to sit down.

Masonic charities weere kind enough to give me an elecric mobility scooter and I can get to Impal Barracks on this no problem, and I'm not sure if I be brethalised if I stick to the pavement.

Will keep you posted. Does this mean I can wear a pars reg blazer badge and 'Big Time' it at SAS reunions???????????

fluffy bunnies

Voodoo

I thought all fluffy bunnies had been destroyed by the ultimate Weapon of Mass Destruction. The gasp, Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

Sure I saw it Discovery channel or similar highbrow programme.

Many thanks

A cunning lie old bean, my bunny is very much alive and one of a new breed - so cute and lovable no-one would dare throw a grenade at them, holy or otherwise :).
