hopefully there would be 2 or three phots for each month, Corps dates could also be on as well. what we want now is some more ideas thrown in the ring by wednesday at the latest, as we have to get this ball rolling now. I`ll also write to Cadbury`s, and see if they want to sponsor the Calendar, which should reduce the costs. I also thought about doing a limited edition, so each calendar would be numbered, so hopefully, they would become collectible as are the Pirrelli calendars. after all,

i suppose this will be the easy task, the hard bit will be what type of memorial will it be? and located where?

Oakhampton is all very well but families will not want to visit that far into the woods. Surely any memorial should be either outside Stonehouse (so it is available for all to see and respect ) or perhaps a bench with plaque on the Hoe in plymouth. The majority of men who fell were either based at Plymouth or sailed from there. Lets keep it where every body can pay there respects- not just bootie but a nation who wont forget!

I tend to favour Tommy Gun's suggestion. Place it in a spot where it gets most exposure and I don't mean exposure to the weather.

i think tommy gunns idea is spot on , put in on a bench on plymouth hoe so any ex booties can come and rest their old bones and pay their respects...........Dolly

I agree that the Memorial, in whatever form, needs to be in the Plymouth area, where the families, visitors etc can visit without any hassle.

Also, shouldn't it be dedicated to the guys from '3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines who lost their lives during Operation Telic' ? This will then include the 3 guys from 29 Cdo Regt RA, who died in the CH 46 crash. It would be churlish not to include them in my view.

If we provide the memorial, it might be better to hand the siting and unveiling over to the Corps, as they are expert at PR, and would be able to invite the families to attend, and provide a Padre, bugler etc.

If the sale of the calendar provides more funds than we need for the memorial, how about the balance going to The Royal Marines Benevolent Fund. This fund now includes serving and non-serving Royal Marines and the Royal Marines Band. I am sure that would bring the serving Corps on board, whose support we need to make this calendar a huge success.

The list of locations for photos, posted by Bootneck, is just a basic plot, and all the units and individuals should be encouraged to forward their entries for consideration. If there are guys who 'do weights' in your unit, then they could be the ideal guys to be in the photo. Decide a Branch theme, so that the photo is for a particular month, get the unit photographer to set the pose, and then forward it to Bootneck. We need class and style, not soft porn, as Sticky pointed out. Families need to be able to hang this calendar in their I'M A SCAMMER SPAMMER!!!, not hide it in the bedroom!
The reason that March is a photo from Op Telic is because that will be the first anniversary of the conflict, and it would be in bad taste to have a 'fun' picture for that month. It could also be the month we dedicate the memorial. If we get a photo the equivalent of the 'Yomper' from the Falklands War , it could be that it will give us the theme for the memorial.

Let Bootneck have as many ideas as you can so that he can make the big decision on the way ahead, and get this project moving.

Thought about some sort of stone from the local area, donated by a quarry, and one side polished down, and the names and units of the ranks on it, with a bench either side, so Dolly can rest his bones after the next 30 miler.

I think that would be a very fitting tribute. there is a quarry at the back of Bickleigh Barracks, cant remember its name but perhaps they could be approached, either that or a bit of Dartmoor Stone/Slate from one of the old quarries.

nice one Flo, Local Stone for the Lads, thought that if the fund raised enough coin, and i think it will, maybe we can supply a couple of benches for Royals Taxi Drivers, the Sea King Pilots that went down, just a thought.

I see there is a film out about the WI calendar, with julie walters helen mirren etc, theres hope yet
