In my day life was all beer and fags, the army used to give them to you free at one time, they came up with rations along with beer and the rum.
Heavens alone knows how we managed to fight, if you were not on at least 20 a day the rest of the unit looked upon you as a bit odd. Yey we all managed to keep fit and pass any test that they threw at us.

I don't think you need to worry unduly ref fitness. As long as you do what is asked by the Navy you should be OK.

Some Matelots I've met were not just a bit overweight but obese. An RS (radio Supervisor/petty officer) on Fearless went by the name of "Golfball" he did not play golf.

Jack seemed to do phizz if he was bored. They were never ordered to do any sort of phyical activity. (a fair few did mind) Most of the seamen had a job that involved a fair bit of hard graft. I joined the RM's at 17 and within 4 days was smoking 20 a day. Everyone did then (1973). I smoked throughout my service and still managed to do those things Royal has to do.

I should'nt worry about the naval fitness test. What do have to do? most likely walk from 1 end of the ship to the other and then get down on your knees for 5 press ups before a speed scrub of the deck. ()
Maybe the old man of the treck can be my commissionaire

Naval PT tests

Post by Oakers »

Come on own up, which one of you cruel ba$£&*ds told the poor girl that the Navy do any PT?

It's not funny y'know misleading her like that, you could seriously damage her if she starts doing any type of phys.

Don't you listen to them sunshine, they're just winding you up, the Navy don't do any PT ever, not even the PTI's.

I'd have liked to have seen that Sticks.

I miss bootneck antics.

Everytime I try anything at work I just get frowned at

Tried to put a pack of kippers in the bosses air conditioning grill but the rest of the team wouldn't have it so I had to wrap.

Do you know I can't even get naked and dance in the office! Bloody philistines

What am I supposed to doon a Friday afternoon when there's no unit phys if I can't get my kit off and do the bootneck shuffle around the office?

Stickies last reminds me of the May celebrations at Eastney back in 1968, when some bright Orficer decided that the Sigs Training Wing, Trials and Demo team would do a dance around the maypole. Mutiny was in the wings until a keg of beer was offered as inducement, to be consumed after the second day's performance. Needless to say the keg was comprehensively broached before the first performance and a happy group of signallers clad in semi-Morris dancing gear started to skip around the maypole. If I remember aright it was the trousers worn by one R Pennell that slowly descended, like the Union Flag at Sunset. A very apt description as it happens because the result was an impressive moon. The crowd of civvies loved it and the incident was added to the repertoire for day two (with more beer to assist of course)
