Preparing for the marines

Post by bird »

I am 14 years old and have been wanting to go in the royal marines for about 3 years now, I decided a couple of months back while i am waiting to get into the marines i could be doing something constructive towards my training/physical status, ect.
I do about an 8 mile run twice a week and go to the gym 4 times a week to do weightlifting ect.
Will this be enough if i keep it up for thr marine training? If not what els could i do?

At 14 years old your body is still developing, don't go overboard on the Phys (Fitness Training)

The minimum age for entry is 16, so you don't have to go mental. You may want to knock the weight training on the head and stick with the basic Press Ups, Pull Ups (Overhang Grasp), Sit-Ups, Burpees, and sprint practise.

Doing too much too soon can really knacker things, take things steady until you are old enough to apply 8)

I am 20 and like you I wish to join the Royal Marines, my training is not as much as yours. I guess you have a lot more free time, for going gym and running. I am finding it hard to fit my training around my work, I wish I could do more but until I get less hours at work I will have to make do with what time I have. :turn-l:

Your 100% right there but trying telling that to my boss.

My dad is my boss, he is 100% behind me joining the Royal Marines but I have to earn a living some how. He said he will cut back my hours which is more than fare. So as soon as he does I will have to pick up the tempo.

Do training after work! Training for my PRMC, i'd work from 8-4.30 then head on to the pool/gym until dinner, then do a run later on in the evening. Takes a bit of balls to keep it up, but then again, you are applying for the Royal Marines!

Hello people!

You will probably call me a fruit but ever since I was a little nipper I was always told that the Army, Marines etc treats people from Ulster/Northern Ireland whatever terminology you wanna use like dirt e.g the good old "paddy" etc. I would just like to know a bit of straight talking, do people get as much crap as what people say they do or is this just scare tactics used by parents family etc to stop me from entering the Army, the Marines etc??

Thanks

Piss-taking always happens...no matter who you are. Cockney w*nker, sheep shagger, Scouser thief...you know the drill. The trick is to enjoy it as banter, because that's what it is at the end of the day.

A BIG ANYWAY! lol! Would anybody be able to advise me an average level of fitness off the record, e.g 2 miles in 15 mins or something like that!

Ulster Man,

Back in the early 60's one of my oppos was a Northern Irish Roman Catholic, I was a Scots Protestant. We would go down Union Street and get absolutely pissed, ending up with him on one side of the street singing rebublican songs and me on the other side singing about King Billy. One of the best oppos I ever had and a bloody good Marine.

Aye - Andy. :drinking:

Sounded fun, I am a Protestant Ulsterman, or Northern Irish what ever terminology you wanna use. Do not mean to sound stupid here, but what is an oppo? Would you be able to advice a suitable minimum level of fitness I would need for the Royal Marines.

Thanks
