HELP! - Does anybody know how to install a graphics card?

Post by rabby »

So I got a new graphics card, a good one. 8)

128MB GeForce 4 but I can't install the ruddy thing! I presume its in the right slot on the motherboard because it doesn't fit anywhere else, but when I try to install it Windows can't detect the bugger.

Any help would be appreciated greatly! :bad-words:

I'm assuming it's a AGP card seeing there is only one slot.
Put the new card in its place and plug all back together.
Startup the machine, if you do not get a new hardware is found message, then go into Control Panel and find your system devices.
Choose your Video Card that is listed and uninstall it by either right clicking or choosing the option on the menu.
You will be asked to reboot your machine.
On startup you will get a new hardware is found message.
Insert the driver disk/cd into your drive and follow the on screen instructions.

Chris, it only cost me £44 anyway.

I don't have a graphics card at the moment, hence the reason for me getting a new one. I installed in the brown AGP slot inside, screwed it all back together and booted up. Windows didn't know any difference so I went to add new hardware and it still couldn't find anything attatched. So I'm going to phone the shop where I got it and see if they'll set it up for me. It's only a family run shop so they should be helpful.

Finger crossed!

Haven't times changed since the days of the Fisher Price Etchasketch! Rabby would be entertained for hours creating and wiping his efforts at existential realism with a neoclassicist allusion.

Stupid me!

It wasn't found by Windows because it wasn't firmly in place. although I had pushed it down properly, I had to really force it into the slot, it took me nearly 3 hours to figure that out!

By the way Prez, I do in fact have an etch-a-sketch, but it got broke when a chair leg crushed the screen.
