chin ups

Post by pbiggn »

hi im going on my second attempt at the PRMC in a couple of months as i failed on the chin ups, i have bought a chin up bar but cant seem to get passed two full arm chin ups. i didnt stay the rest of the course after being told that i had failed on the chin ups but wished i had.
Also can anyone tell me in more detail about what happens in the second gym test??

I have a chinup bar in my doorway, when i started training I considered myself fairly strong but I could not even do 1 overhand grasp pullup.

Every time I pass though my doorway I do as many as i can and since being able to do 0 I can now do ten after a workout. Only problem is I now have triangular shoulders that make the clothes i wear look funny.

If any of you have not got a chin up bar but have a swing in the garden, then cut the ropes off and throw the seat away, perferct now for pull ups (overcrasp of course). I never realy had any trouble with these, can do 14 no problem without practiseing them that much, but that changes if it rains, as bar gets slipery and grip is crap. Count go and see the doctor if your shoulders are triangles.

Very funny in a remedial sense :D

I try not to increase my muscle mass, instead stay athletic but, my shoulders are no longer straight

I have Triceps like a weight lifter, i think's it triceps or Deltoids, either way, shirts that used to fit me now look like i bought two sizes 2 small.

I used to be proud of my broard straight shoulders but now I just look like a pythagerous theorum, :drinking:

I can do undergrasp pullups, about 10 or so...

Now overgrasp, I'm like you... can do about 1 - if that...

I have a pullup bar - it isn't helping.

For more info on Gym test 2 have a look at Gippers diary! Pull-ups are the bain or my life too! wouldnt trust the pull-up bar on my door ways

Try some weight training to help your lats, delts, biceps and triceps and you should start to find them getting easier

1/ Laterall pull down
2/ Tricep dips
3/ Military presses
4/ Shoulder presses
5/ Incline pull ups

Hope it helps...

try negative chin ups,

u use a stall and use that to raise urself and lower yourself only using your arms, this builds the muscles needed to perform the chin up exercise.

alright mate, only just registered on the forum found it earlier, lot of very good help on here so far, I've got the same problem as you at the moment pullups seem to be very hard, but ive started a lot of free weight work to get each muscle group sorted an done about 3 or 4 exercises for each one to hit it from a slightly different angle:

(i do negative chins to help them all but individual its as follows for me)

Back:
- Lateral Raises
- Rowing

Tricep:
- Tri Dips
- Close Grip Bench Press
- Skull Crushers
- 1 Arm Tri Pushups

Shoulders:
- Shoulder Press
- Dumbell Shoulder Press
- Shrugs

an lastly
Biceps:
- Concentration Curls
- Bicep Curls
- Hammer Curls

thats how i do it but its whatever works for you at the end of the day, sorry if anyone disagrees with me im new on here, only trying to help,

I hope to join up within the next year

Overhand

Post by Dave_Billing »

Guys,

Just so I'm clear: overhand means you can see your finger nails or your knuckles? Seems to me your hand go over the bar either way.

Over hand

Over hand pull ups you see your knuckles mate. Practise both but remember you'll not get anywhere if you can't do overhand.

One other thing about them. When you're both at the top and bottom have about a 3 second wait to simulate the wait for the instruction to go up and down. If u just bang them out as quickly as possible when at home, when you come to do them you will struggle.
