Post by Kev »

What does the medical consist of? And do you have to sit any kind of written exams to be accepted?

Kev, I had a medical not long ago and its pretty basic. Firstly there is a urine test and a hearing test (detecting bleeps). Then you see the doctor who measures height and mass, fiddles with various limbs, asks you to cough (!) and a few questions about lifestyle. Absolutely no drama and should not take much more than 2-3 hours. Its a good opportunity to talk to fellow applicants in the flesh too.

Had my medical this morning and passed. This is what happens..

Provide urine sample (prize goes to the person who does not pee on their hand)
Answer the usual medical questions (any history of heart disease; asthma etc)
Hearing test (acknowledge different pitches of bleeps)
Colour-blind test (identify numbers made-up of circles)
Weight\height\chest measurements
Lung capacity 'blow' test
Eye test (At a distance, cover one eye and read small letters)
Blood pressure and pulse rate
Strip off to your shorts so that the doc can inspect your feet\arm\body alignment and movement
Tests knee reflexes
Presses\feels your stomach
Listens to chest\breathing
Checks flexibility of hamstrings (lie on back and raise one leg at a time)
Takes a quick look at your balls (just to ensure that they are there)

Blimey LM, my medical only consisted of about half that!

1/ Urine sample
2/ Hearing test
3/ Eye test
4/ Colour blindness test [Ishiara & CP]
5/ Listen to chest
6/ Quick prod around the body and knees
7/ Bollo**s and cough

Done and dusted!

Aye,
