More or less, just be sure to put it on an incline of about 2-3%.

Try to get out on the trail every now and then and see how the fresh air feels.

Good Luck

I wouldnt bother mate!

A teadmill will give you less impact on your joints and the environment will be more comfortable, however! when on your PRMC you cant change the weather or the terrain you run on so you might as well get used to running in the rain, wind, cold etc

They will run you ragged! just ask Ro55,

Out of interest, what level of fitness are you at now? my advice would be to do alot of circuit work!

wilson

ps,
to get a decent treadmill your looking at about £600 plus so it might be more cost effective to get a gym membership to vary your workout and get sound advice.

Using a running machine will build your stamina but in my experience totally un prepear you for real cross country running.I stopped using it and noticed a great inprovement , i too would suggest using it as part of your training especially for stamina and keeping it at a set speed and keep at it for 30 mins.

Running just unfer 1 mile in 15mins aint that good mate! On the PRMC its 3 Miles in 22.5 mins. I managed 4 miles in 29.24 and i got told that 7.31 minute mile. So 15 Min/Mile aint at all good, sorry.

I was in the same possition, when i started training i had trouble running a mile in a good time - but now after weeks of dedicated training i can run 3 miles in 22 minutes (just). But i still gotta improve on that.
Your best bet is just to get out on the road 5 times a week and run a mile every time untill you can do it in a good time, thats what i did with my distences.

Chris,

Complete waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It wont prepare you for PRMC and you will find that on those cold morning you'll end up on the treadmill rather than the open road. For a cheaper option, buy yourself a Reebok Ironman vest, it weighs 40lbs and cost the fraction of a treadmill. The vest will have you breathing out of every hole in your body...........

To get a decent treadmill you need to paye a minimum of £500, if your hoping to go in this year its a bit of a waste?

Good luck!

wilson

I get stomach cramps running on treadmills. I guess my posture is just slightly different from road running, or I'm not used to doing 3 miles on a never changing surface -- my 3 mile route is nothing but ups and downs.

I'd say you're better off getting a gym membership with the money you would spend on a treadmill. There are plenty of other things to do in the gym so it's not quite as monotonous. You can hop on a stationary bike or an elliptical trainer, or go for a swim if your gym has a pool. Some gyms even have indoor running tracks (the one in my gym is above the pool so it's incredibly humid and a drastically different experience compared to running out doors).

I also find it easier to force myself to work out if I'm not at home. At home, it's easy to get distracted and say "Oh, I'll do that after supper" but then a movie comes on TV or a friend calls or whatever, and you find yourself out of time. With the gym you go, workout, and that's that.

Plus there's the scenery aspect to the gym... God bless the man who invented spandex.

Treadmills are a joke, as already said, they cost so much and get so little back, according to my sources they're also too easy, I mean look at this we guy, he's even smiling!!
