Specialisations Questions
This is from the official publications regarding specialisations:
'Once you have passed your training, there are 25 specialisations for you to choose from, all offering a wide variety of qualifications. Whichever one you choose, your primary role will always be as a Royal Marines Commando.
Most newly trained recruits join the General Duties specialisation but you can volunteer for any of the other 24. We are currently actively recruiting for Driver, Signals, Heavy Weapons Anti-Tank, Heavy Weapons Mortar and Vehicle Mechanic through the Direct Specialisation Scheme (DSS).
The specialisations are: Aircrewman, Armourer, Assault Engineers, Chef, Clerk, Drill Leaders, Driver, Electronic Warfare, Heavy Weapons Anti-tank, Heavy Weapons Air Defence, Heavy Weapons Mortars, Illustrator, Landing Craft, General Duties, Royal Marines Medical Assistant, Metalsmith, Military Provost, Mountain Leader, Physical Training Instructor, Platoon Weapons Instructor, Stores Accountant, Signals, Swimmer Canoeist, Telecommunication Technician or Vehicle Mechanic.'
Apparently one is able to volunteer for any 24 but I thought that you had to be a JNCO to be a ML as it is primarily an instructor branch therefore ineligible as a 'newbie' and to serve SC you have to have served for 3(?) years. So there are only 22 other specialisations that one can apply for for newly trained recruits...
