Am I to old at 26 to join the Royal Marines?

Post by JMH »

I've read on the official Royal Marines site that the maximum age is 27, as I'm 26 will my age count against me in getting into the Royal Marines. Also will my age count against me if I become a Royal Marine at 26.

Thanks.

Some of my best mates are old dogs!

(But then I am an old and bald (nearly)).

Pete Forrester (CS) is probably best placed to answer this but doesn't always have his ears on, so try sending him a Tony

I was a troop DL aged 26.
I had 2 recruits pass out who were older than me at the time.
It shouldn`t make any difference. Yoy might get a bit pissed off with all the teenagers in the troop, but that`s about it.

Slappers will prefer the more "Mature" recruit when you`re allowed ashore.

im 26 and currently in week 19 of training, and loving it.
As long as you are fit and doing it for the right reasons, go for it i gave up a good job to do this and i havent regreted it one bit. It is hard but its worth it.

In the words of Simon Murray in the book Legionaire 'do it and do it now and you will be happy at 40' (don't suppose he meant 40 cdo though). I was one of Si Capons brood but I'm sure he wasn't thinking about me when referring to the slappers - still, I tried :( My position was different as, although having a degree, I had f**k all to go back to. You'll need to make your own decision mate but I'd say do it if only to exorcise the 'what if' that you are bound to face in later life having considered joining up.

Many was the day I plotted Si's downfall but he was a superb instructor (gentle and compassionate as they come  ) and the two weeks spent with him in induction were probably the longest of my life. If/when you do join I hope you are graced with similar - him and the team made bootnecks out of a pretty motley bunch.
