how long would it take to get NVQs levels 1 & 2 or either one in carpentry, and once you get to battalion could you train as an assault pioneer or would you have to get experience first which i would imagine, and also what would be your role on operations.

cheers :D

If you wish to become an Assault Pioneer, you will not be able to do so in the chunkies. You will need to transfer to a proper unit [infantry] and train there, once you have proved yourself proficient as an infantryman.

Perhaps a little more thought/advice was required before enlisting

Look here!!!

Please note the last paragraph.
Training as an Assault Pioneer with demolition skills, or for more intensive artisan skills, is available to soldiers of the right calibre.

29 CDO Royal Artillery......so you need to be a gunner, 59 CDO RE (Or whatever they are called now) are engineers therefore thats probably what you would want?

Why not go RE then Commando or Royal Marines and Assault Engineer?
