I read about it in the Daily Mail (must be true) a while back and there were phots of him with a para reg cap badge but it looks like the gen buzz is that he was in the Royal Irish as a regular and then in 4 Para after a stint as a journo.

To prove what a gen buzz it is the article also says this:

Had he been in the Corps he would have just been put on a sigs course
