1 YORKS

Post by derson »

Evening folks...

I have one or two quick questions about 1 YORKS that I can't seem to find answers to, I'd appreciate it if anyone could help.

I'm waiting on a date for my ADSC and have chosen 1 YORKS as my first choice, now I was told during my interview that they would be moving to Germany... I'm wondering, should I pass ADSC and complete training, would I be packed up and shipped of to Germany, and if so, is it a temporary thing or for good?

I'm nay too fussed either way, just interested to know.

I tried the search but it wasn't very helpful, and I couldn't really find anything on the Yorkshire Regiment website.

Hi,

1 Yorks will be moving from Catterick to Germany at the end of the summer, more specifically to Paderborn Garrison, home of the 20th Armoured Brigade to which they will be attached.

Paderborn will then be 1 Yorks home garrison, so the move isn't a short posting.

So when you complete your training you will join your battalion in Paderborn as that will be the battalion's home garrison. Or Catterick if they haven't moved by the time you complete training.

The idea behind all the recent infantry amalgamations is that a battalion will stay in one place for a long period of time, and that soldiers will be posted between battalions to get a wide range of different experiences (ie armoured inf, light role, mechanised etc)

So if you join 1 Yorks, you may well be posted out of there after a few years to 2 Yorks or 3 Yorks (who will be based elsewhere and in a different role)
