Hip/groin discomfort

Post by Bored Civvy »

I keep gettng this strange cramp and painish type thing in my hip and groin area.
I pulled it last year but its been ok lately so Ive been trying to run but it just seems after Ive rested it and try to go back running again it flares up and its really getting on my nerves now.
Basically, the latest incarnation of it is like a kind of sharp tickly cramp around the inside of the very top of my right thigh. Also, when I press on the top side of my leg, kind of the middle of the front bit to the left a tad,it feels tender under pressure.
Im icing it now but will I be ok to go on an exercise bike with it for 15mins?
And what about circuit training?Im following the circuit programme of the Marines get fit to apply site.

Sounds like the symptoms I had when I got stress fractures in my pelvis...
:o
Best bet is to get it checked out by a doc. They'll be able to tell you more than we can!

Personally i had 8 weeks on crutches, and took a year to get back to fighting fitness, but then I definitely had stress fractures. Bone scan confirmed it.

You might not, but the only way to find out, and to know what to do next, is to see a doctor!

sounds alittle like you have a hipflexor injury and if it keeps flaring up it might be osteitis pubis

i also suggest you go to the doc...

from my experience (as I had similar sounding symptoms) you may have a torn hip flexor and/or a sports hernia (gilmores groin). Pretty difficult to treat as its very awkward to get at but its treatable with physio. i was out for few month with mine and wasnt able to train 60% let alone 100%. Best bet is to see a private sports physio as when I went to GP they didnt have a clue and at best just referred me to an nhs physiotherapist which I had to wait an age for.

Hmm,well to be honest I dont see the point going to a doc as the only advice and help(?? :-? ) I`ll get is "rest it and take painkillers and if it isnt right in a month...........do it again!!" :-?

Ive got an appointment on friday with a chiropractor (who Ive heard is good and sorted out another guy who ripped all the muscles in his shoulder)so I`ll see what he says....

Im pissed off as its put my year plan in the shit now.

EDIT:I think Im in the shit with this hip.I read up on that osteitis pubis and it sounds pretty much like what Ive got.
I was gonna join the TA this year to get some experience before I applied for RM but theres not much point now as I cant do any training. :(

Good news now.
Went to the docs eventually and he said its proably a groin sprain so thats a load off my mind!!
Got some pain killers too.

Just wondering if I should do any gentle stretches on it or a warm up?
Also, does anyone know WHAT type of stretches should do on it and how long ?
Cheers.
