1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards

Post by dubrat »

Hi All

First post here from an Aussie.

I am on my way to England in a couple of months and look forward to Joining your Armed Forces. I was speaking to a recruiter and he mentioned that 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards will have a Squadron permanently attached to 3 Commando Brigade. Does anyone have any further info on this? Will they have to complete the All Arms Commando course.

Cheers

Think they have spun you a load of tripe to be honest, there are army units attached to 3 CDO brigade, such as 24 CDO RE (formally 59 CDO RE), 29 RA and the 1st Rifles.

there are definitly army units attached but best researching first before beliving anything, there info maybe out dated.

There are currently bootnecks training some of the light dragoons on the ATV(P) (viking) to help reduce the load on the Armoured support coy.

i believe orginally, there were some bootnecks working with haglunds (sp?) on the trials and testing of the BVs10 (viking), they changed it from the orginal idea to what we have to day in the viking, the corps ordered 128? i believe it was with some deal that, every other viking haglunds sells to other states or, every other one our government buys the corps doesnt have to pay for one of the orginal 128?? was something like that.

i know they have ordered more rrv variants due to mines etc and a few mor GS versions.

i think instead of the army 'getting' them, there just learning to drive the corps vikings, saves the mod money that way as they dont have to buy more all over again??

awesome bits of kit though!! rather be in them than just about anything else out there!

The Swedes are pretty good at making war stuff :)
Our infantry is crazy about their new CV9035 also from Hagglunds.
And Bofors make some of the finest artillery available.

Re. Light Dragoons.
Is there any thoughts about a Scimitar replacement or upgrade?

I have done some more reseach and found this.

"Therefore it falls to us, as the “family”, to give the soldiers and families of the serving Regiment our full support and assistance, particularly as they prepare for their deployment with 3 Commando Brigade in Afghanistan this October."
