Hi Geoff,
the "set" as Mutley refers to it, consist of two disks made from a material similar to tuffnol. One is red and round, the other is green and octagonal. They are tied to the cord in such a way that the red disc can be cut from the cord and leave the green disc still tied round your neck. One of the reasons why this would be necessary, is that you are about to be buried. So, if you still have both, you are probably still alive! At least, I think I am! They come in handy for hanging your keys on as well.
If you want a set of your own, walk into any recruiting office and they will sort you out!
By the way Mutley, I still have mine,
yours, Aye Harry Hackedoff

Well they have changed from the 90's they became the same as the Army's which are tin (stainless) x 2 held together by a toilet chain effect necklace.
The ones I was issued and wore from training were left along with most of my memorabilia and most likely destroyed when I was Divorced from my Second Wife... But they are one thing I would like back, Sad.

Don't forget that in a survival situation you could boil your ID tags and make tomatoe soup from the red one and vegetable soup from the green one! (its true because the PWs told us).
They took my ID discs off of me when I left, but I can still remember who I am because my wife keeps shouting my name.

Shoulderholster - Yours must have been from a different vintage, I was always told it was pea soup and bovril broth!
Harry - The kids used up the coloured wax a long time ago but they never tried the wonderful face packs, reputedly made buy Nivea, or was it Ponds. In the past I have tried to persuade the long-haired colonel that it dramatically improved looks but had to go back to the paper bag. Its always useful to keep around as the options to upgrade to a newer model are becoming less viable.........
Tin plate and bog chain is a bit worrying, doesn't tin melt? But I suppose you would have an equally useful survival tool. Can opener, bottle opener, entrenching tool, getting stones out of horses hooves, saw, etc...

Its not just planks, a good application to a pussers ironing board, can keep the kids (and dads) amused for hours!
