list of dead men in iraq?
list of dead men in iraq?
im planning to join the infantry after going through sandhurst but it is more difficult than i thought to persuade the parents that it is a good idea joining the infantry.
Q.Does any one have a complete list or part list of all the men/women who ahve died in iraq or afghanistan and what corps they are from.. as i would like to see facts?
OR..... does anyone have any idea what the ratio is of deaths between the corps?
any answer would be good thanks

IED's are equal opportunity killers, they don't care what corps, sex, religion or race you are when they go bang that's it.
The Infantry may be the ones who take the fight to the enemy but in the likes of Iraq you're more likely to be killed taking a drive down a main road than in charging an enemy position.
Choose the job you want to do most not what you think is the safest, any part of the military which goes into a warzone is in just as much danger as any other, basically if your time is up then your time is up.

yeh sorry to have a dull first post!!
im not bothered personally too much about the death rate but was just looking at it to see if i could have a strong argument over my parents about it.
looking at the list what it does show is that a fair amount are due to air accidents, friendly fire and accidents but yes there is still a high amunt of hostile deaths.
what did occur to me though is that nearly all of the deaths are soldiers as oppososed to officers... is this correct or just newspapers not fully understanding the difference??

Here's a little gem for you, might want to think about this....
One of the RMPs who was killed in the infamous incident in Iraq in 2003 was ex 1 Para. His parents didn't want him in such a dangerous regiment as the Paras, so he transferred to the RMP. His father is now a prominant anti war protester, funnily enough.
About the same time as the RMPs all surrendered to the (non) mercy of the Iraqis, a 1 Para patrol was involved in a similar incident just around the corner. They decided to fight it out and all of them came out alive.
If you don't want to put your life on the line, don't join the army, simple as that.

Sorry mate but that book's absolute bollocks!SO19 wrote:On a side note, the book 'Last Round: The Red Caps, the Paras and the Battle of Majar' by Mark Nicol gives a very good account of both the RMP incident and the 1 PARA contact at Majar Al Kabir that ron speaks of.
Take it from peeps who were in theatre and in the same COC at the time the book is full of crap! There are guesses backed up by complete lies all the way through the book ! the only reason nobody's kicked off about it is cos they were our oppo's and deserve respect regardless !!!!!!!
"When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pussy."
