I feel a bit stupid

Post by Bored Civvy »

I stopped my re-joining application a while ago as I didnt feel the time was right and I was going through something at the time.
Now I want to start again (and have joined the gym for fitness motivation)but I just feel kind of stupid going back to the Paras after I messed up so badly the first time.
I read my army report which was awful and even though the officer was really cool and ok about it I still feel embarrassed saying I want to go back there.
I do feel a lot more ready mentally now and Para reg is the only one Ive wanted to join from day one so if I joined another reg Id feel I was lying to myself.
What do serving soldiers think of recruits rejoining?Do any Paras think I deserve or should even be offered a second chance?

Well i never finished Depot so im not a great voice to go by, but i'd say if you feel you have seen the error of your ways and have genuinely changed for the better, then i dont see why not.

It's the old sweats place to say, not an ex Joe sh#tstain

The only thing stopping you rejoining
is yourself. Most blokes couldn't give a
four X how many times you've tried.
If you need to join a gym to get fitness
motivation then you need to check your
motivation. Fitness is a personal thing, not
something you should need someone else
to motivate you to do. There is no substitute
for getting out on the road and pounding the
miles out or pumpin iron in the gym, and not a
fancy dan airy fairy gym either, a proper grunt
groan place is better.
Go for it.
Tis better to have tried and failed
than to have failed to try.

Well,I talked to the army and because of my previous army record I have been advised not to retry for the paras (or even the army) as I have a high chance of getting turned away.... :(
Im disappointed but mostly angry at myself for messing things up.
What seems a good idea at the time........

Perhaps you could try the TA?

If they're willing to take you (and I'm sure they will be), a couple of years experience with them would surely help with an application to the regs.

You could even be offered the chance to continue full-time if you've had a sucessful deployment.

Just a thought. Best of luck with whatever you do.

What about the RM?
Abit different but you'll still be a soldier and in the military.

Just out of interest mate, what is this terrible thing you've done in your murky past? Did you pass out of depot?

I was wondering that, must be shitty for the Perc to bin your chances of rejoining, especially with the current, or is it raisen, state of recruitment and losses to civilian strasse.

What about the RM? farking bone comment. If perc dont want him the Andrew and Royal will fark him right off.

Theres always the RAF?

Well, its quite embarassing for me to say but I left in the first week of training..... but I did catch tonsilitis as well and was stopped doing the training and stuff so maybe if Id carried on before I got taken out I would have stayed.I was just really young, immature and inexperienced and just couldnt hack the masssive culture shock and instead of taking it one day at a time I kind of psyched myself out with the huge challenge of training if you see what I mean. And my army report said I was totally unsuitable for army or para life.
Now its hit me how bad I really messed up Im totally gutted.

Have you contacted Para Reg direct or have you just been told to f*ck off by some fat muppet in a careers office? How long ago was it that you applied? If it's been a decent amount of time and you really have changed a lot I can't see why you wouldn't be given a second chance. Do you believe what the report about you said? It must have been a pretty bad performance on your part for them to label you 'totally unsuitable'!

I'd just advise you to speak to the Regt direct, get rid of the middlemen in funny coloured berets. The Reg blokes will tell you straight if you're a mong or not.

I did email the para recruiting team and told them my situation but didnt get any reply.Maybe thats an indication of what they think!!
When I first got in it will be 2years this november and I was 17.
The officer at the careers office I spoke to said as I was only there a week and caught tonsilitis he didnt feel it was a fair impression of me and,to be honest,I probably didnt put in as much effort as I could have done because of homesickness and feeling out of my depth like I could never finish the course etc.
Since then I have regretted it ever since, looking back on the opportunity I missed and have grown up a lot and have a lot more self-confidence and belief in myself which I didnt have before which let me down.
Should I e-mail them again or try their recruiting line or something?

WILL get back to you.
recruiting@parachute-regiment.com

That's from the website.

If they haven't got back to your email then ring them up.

There's no point in coming on here and moaning about the fact you've been told not to apply as no one on here can do anything about that.

If you want to prove that you've grown up since you were at depot and that you're not actually a muppet then ask them can you get yourself on one of the insight courses.

If you prove yourself to be fit, determined and switched on to the training staff who run the course then I'm sure they will back your application.

Use some initiative for god sake, you've obviously visited the website so you know they offer insight courses which are there to assess if you're ready/suited to joining up.

Ive been reading this one for a few days now.

Sorry to say this BoredCivvy, I dont know you or anything about you or your week at depot, but ffs your bleating like a rogered sheep on penyfan.

You say you've grown up etc etc, but all you have done is post on here, pop into the careers office once, and email someone.

If you behaved like that within the forces, you wouldnt last 5. Ever heard of perserverence? Seeings as you didnt have it first time round maybe thats what the army are looking out for this time?????

Id be at the careers office door and wouldnt leave until I got a yes. Day after day.

I dont think you have what it takes to pass para training or anything else for that matter, not mentally at least.

So whinging and get you arse down the office.

Grrrr
