just a quick question
just a quick question
passed my BARB test today getting the health questionaire sorted tomorrow... just thought i'd ask if anyone could offer information.
Im hoping to join The Rifles 1bn but from reading the Infantry booklets i've been provided it seems as though the Devonshire and Dorset regiment hold that posistion and mainly recruit from that area, will I get a choice whether I get a place there or not? From the Midlands by the way.

Best advice is to insist mate, end of the day they want bodies (unfortunate phrase) as much as you want to join. Any particular reason why you want to join this Rifles lot? If you want infantry there's better places to go, hint hint

To be honest mate, why pick a unit that's attached to an elite unit? Why not just join an elite unit
You'll spend your whole time on the outside looking in wishing you were one of them. Attachments are tempory things, soon the Rifles'll be back in average-land.

That's true, soon we'll end up in units with no heritage or traditions with a number for a name like the Americans. NIGHTMARE
Just so you know, I'm not trying to sell the Paras to you. I just think if you're going to be a soldier you'd want to be the best at it.

There was a lad only my platoon who transferred over from the Rifles and from what he said I wouldn't pick them over the Paras any day if you want to be the best soldier you can. He got upto about week 8 and said they were still only doing 2 PT sessions a week!!Nimbard wrote:Well im still considering the paras but the rifles are also appealing to me also with them being attached to 3cdo just something that tickled my fancy.. cheers for the advice mate
Also with ref to wanting to join 1 Rilfes, apparently you cant pick and choose which battalion you join now, they're just sending the recruits who pass out to whichever Btn needs them most, more than likely the one that's either just going on an op or just came back from one.
Seriously though if you're going Infantry and want to really push yourself, go Paras, if you want a more easy life join the Rifles. That's not having a dig that's a fact.

There's fark all wrong with line infantry regiments! Don't let anyone tell you any different. All this bull$hit about who's best gives me the creeps! The line inf are doing a bang-up job overeseas and the same job, I might add, as everone else! Choosing a line inf Regt is not "settling" for mediocrity, it's simply making a choice. Do what you think you need to do, just put your heart and sole into it so you can look yourself in the mirror and know you did your best.
