I'm shortly to be joining the Navy, not Marines, but have heard from alot of Army blokes that South African Assault Vests are quite popular amongst UK troops.
Is this the case in the Marines too? I've still got all my brothers' kit, and access to a few of their army buddies, all of whom still have their assault vests.
Is it worth me bringing them over before I join with a view to selling them? Will be training at Raleigh, so will be able sell to Marines stationed nearby. A possible glitch is that they are a plain brown colour. Does all HM Forces kit have to be DPM or the desert pattern?

A few blokes waer South African webbing, being at Raliegh wont bring you into much contact with bootnecks except fot those on a chefs course, i am afraid they dont fetch big money either, i am sure army surplus stores would do you a deal on some kit that you may need though. Dont get me wrong bootnecks would buy it of you if price was right coulour dosnt matte, i kno wbloke s that have worn it in diffrent theaters, it is a good assault webbing.
My pussers assault vest has fallen to bits over the last 6 months in Afghan, i had to have the ammo pouches ammeneded because the old ones weer to flimsy and i kept loosing my mags, in the end i had g10 ones sown on, but the other pouches were to flimsy the buckles snapped of, the zips have died of death they died in the first week
any way i digress hope that helps.

Going back to SA just before basic starts, so reckon I'll bring some through anyway and keep them in storage at my girl's place.
Was wondering about the vests after seeing a thread on the Arrse forums saying that the Army blokes loved the SA vests, but that there were also alot of cheap crappy imitations out there to be careful of. And, going into the navy as a diver, thought I'd try get for Royal before selling to Army.
