From Army to Marines
Ello Ello. just a quick one im in the infantry right now but in a year maybe a couple of years i want to be in the Marines. is there anyway of transfering over from where i am now in the army straight to the Marines and if so what tests would i have to do? or would i have to leave the army and start Marines training week 1 day 1 ? cheers boyz much love
They will 'cut a deal' with you mate, based on PSO interview, initial assesments and past unit reports. As well as taking into account experience, trade, op tours, etc.
Its a grey area and they pretty much do there own thing based on who you are and what you've done. Usually for ex-infantry who have been in a few years and got some rank they will fast track you through the criteria tests by sliding you into a troop for a week and bumping you forward another 5-10 weeks with another troop to do a criteria exercise for example. Will usually do the full commando phase of training and tests, which is 8 weeks. Prior to that, certainly week 15 which is a big basic skills test week, possibly 12 which is APWT, possibly 4-5 just to get a feel for the different bullshit.
I knew an ex-para who got offered to fast-track in about 8 weeks if that, he turned in down and did the whole course for the crack - 32 weeks.
Knew another fella, ex pouchers PTI who got fasttracked, did 2 of the early weeks, then did apwt, then on week 15 developed an injury and got put into Hunter troop (Rehab) for 6 months, then got MD'd, couldnt even return to the Army. - same thing happened to myself.
If you do it mate, I would go via all arms, or do some more years in the inf and ensure they will fast track you. The body cant take a 32 pasteing like that after years of battering it already. fast track yourself, and take the appropriate medical and insurance cover if you want to do it- just 'slipping' accross aint as simple as it sounds.
I won't talk to you like a kid, but I would be realy sure about it bro. I know a lot of guys who have thrown away good Army careers chasing this and theres no way back - you will be a recruit again. Also, life in the corp aint all that, according to what most of my old troop have said anyway.
Hope that helps.
