PLY/4348 Marine Bob Pearce RM (known also as Mick)

Post by bobsuruncle »

Joined the Corps in May 1943 and left Sept 1955.
His active service career saw him through WW2, Middle East (Baker Troop 45 Cdo RM), Far East Hong Kong, Korea, HMS Birmingham, HMS Ocean, various other ships, served in 41 Cdo RM (Malta), RM Stonehouse Plymouth, Eastney Bks plus several other Units and locations.
He was brought up in Coleraine Northern Ireland, and was always proud of his roots there.
My Dad always said and lived by the saying `..Once a Marine, always a Marine`. He loved the Corps and always regretted leaving it, though he felt it was time to move on back then.
He was a typical `Marines-Marine` who always believed in work hard-play hard, indeed many a provo Sergeant was given the run around be it down the `Gut` (Straight Street) in Malta, or Union Street in `Guz`!! It was a shame velcro was not invented in his day as he was always having his good conduct badges taken away from him, to be sown on again when re-awarded!!
He was immensely proud of his son`s, indeed, I joined the Corps in his footsteps (serving 28yrs).
Dad leaves behind behind his wife June, two son`s Bryan, Robert, three grand children Mel, Sean, Rebecca and one great grand child Kayleigh.
He tragically passed away suddenly on 06th Dec 2002 aged 77yrs, and his funeral was held in Woodingdean, Brighton on 16th Dec 2002.

Met Robbies dad twice over leave periods and it was always obvious that that he was immensly proud of his time in the Corps.

We shall raise a glass to him this Friday.

' you can take the man out of the Corps but you cannot take the Corps out of the man'

Rob, never met your Dad as you know, 40 years service in the Corps between father and son is something to be very proud of,
may he rest in peace and I hope all the family are OK
