Grey Wing's making a fair point. It is a bit shitty but I was refused entry to pubs/clubs - no big deal, refused house insurance (a bit more of a problem) and all sorts.

I got a right Royal shoeing when I kicked off in Sam's as a sprog trained rank by old sweat bouncers and whilst I didn't start the original scuffle I did larrap one of the said bouncers so I deserved what I got - not for the first time

I've been out after oppo's funerals and you're probably not best disposed to discuss the rights and wrongs so the bouncers probably did them a favour. Also, I always felt uncomfortable going out in rig (I'd rather just blend in) and I'd feel a right c**t dressing up as a hero soldier on rear party (or whatever) when my colleagues are slogging it out somewhere.

Oh.....and finally.....why go to a nobby Aussie bar in the first place?

I'm not having a go at anyone, and sometimes there can be an occasion when everyone is in the right, and I believe that everyone in this instance was correct.

I've been a doorman, in fact it was a serving Marine that was on the door with me that got me onto the marines. I've worked in the centre of York between 3 army bases and seen what happens when they are not in uniform never mind if they saw the other regiment in uniform. There would be no way they'd be allowed in.

Thing is, there is a lot of information that is missing from this story, what time of day was it?, was the pub busy?, How many doormen were on? The fact that they'd just come from a funeral would make me as a doorman think even more about admission, because you've got 3 or 4 chaps that are highly emotive and highly trained, and if that doorman is on his own or there are only 2 of them and something kicks off, his back up is about 5-10 minutes away with the police. These doorman do it as a part time job, they don't get sick pay or compensation once they've had there heads kicked in. If they are off work for 2 months with broken bones, who pays the mortgage.

The pub says it has a history of violence in the past, and has or is trying to mitigate risk, is that not armed forces are trained to do, mitigate risk?

When I was in Exeter, you knew the pubs you couldn't go in and you knew not to bother trying, I understood it and didn't complain.

All I'm saying is that there is too much info missing, to make a decision either way. It's a very emotive issue but doesn't mean emotion should make the judgement.

i agree with greywing, I've done the door a few years and i have refused service personnel in uniform before, i've also let them in, EVERY situation on every door is different, you can't possibly make a judgement on the incident without being there. Would i let a couple of pissed marines in rig who had come from a funeral into a busy bar which is not exactly known for being the most peaceful place in the world anyway... probably not. Doormen arent w@#k, definately not 80% of them anyway, we can spot potential flare ups and dont take risks, as greywing said, we arent paid enough.

Lets face it in Liverpool there are a lot of gentlemen and woman from the Emerald Isle who are not above having a Pop at British Serviceman and Women be they in rig or civvies.

Ok so these days the NI situation is on the back boiler but people still remember the past. So I can only assume that the bouncers on the door knew that blokes wearing Full Blues and medals some with GSM's with the words Northern Ireland on the clasp were going to be like a red rag to a bull to some of the people already in the place.

Can you imagine the headlines if a riot had kicked off in the place between the guys in rig and the gentlemen and women from over the water? It don't bear thinking about really.

When we first came over I was surprised to see the local ADF allowing the wearing of Uniform when ashore.
I was even further surprised on our first ANZAC Day when at 06 00(I kid you not!) the main drag outside ANZAC House was covered in Aussie matelots all in tropical whites absolutely shit faced, with several lying comatose in the gutters
