British soldier killed in Iraq

It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of a British soldier in Iraq on Sunday 1 October 2006.

The soldier, from the Royal Army Medical Corps, was killed following an indirect fire attack on the Shaat Al Arab Hotel base in Basra City. Another soldier was seriously injured in the same incident.

Next of kin have now been informed. A 24 hour period of grace will be given before the identity of the deceased is released.
