Two flicks
Both available on DVD, make a good set. Both about the aftermath of WWI, but recommended only if you don't mind subtitles (they're in French):
"a very long engagement" and "life and nothing but"
Pretty good, I thought.

I just got to watch Syriana.
Seems George Clooney can act.
I was real impressed by the movie.
Mind you the next day I rented Pirates of the Carribean.
Haven't larfed so much since Grandma got her tit's caught in the mangle.
Just got through Pirates Two,Still laughing my ass off.
John Depp does a wonderful British accent.
"Bugger"Still cracks me up.
Go see it/rent it if you want some mindless entertainment.
I really enjoyed both of them(But then I'm mindless).

Frank,
I did enjoy that "Long Engagement" film...that's "Un long dimanche de fiançailles" for them what want to know the proper title
Audrey Tautou is so sickeningly good looking it makes me want to slap her

Off for my tea now so as I can sit down in time for the World Cup final.
Hope Zidane scores, and France wins.
Its going against the grain somewhat by not supporting Italy, but France deserves the Cup this time round.
Plus Paris will be buzzing still when I go back in a few weeks.

Poke the Spick Dive Team, I say. Winkers all of `em
Never thought I`d hear meself say it, but, "Come on you Kermits"
Three-one to the Frogs would be about right

Marina,
Syriana was ok, by my standards. It raised some good and serious questions. I won't list it among my favorites though. That's not to say it isn't good, but my standards are probably a bit too high.
I can't speak for the torture scene as I wouldn't watch.
Good Night and Good Luck, on the other hand, I thought was awesome. The press has been vilified on a regular basis, but it's nice to know that a few had the guts to stand up for the truth, biased or not.

Many thanks everyone,
I will definitely get those DVDs out, probably see Good Night and Good Luck first. My friend saw Syriana and said it was a very complex film if you don't understand the issues behind it.
Munich is also on my list to watch.
One of my colleagues saw ' A Scanner Darkly' supposed to use rotoscope (spelling ??
) animation, he highly recommended it.
Hi Julie
Did you watch 'The Grid' ? I know it was entertaining TV but I thought it brought up some good issues about different thinking muslims living in the west and their relations with westerners.
P.S
Those in the UK, on channel 4 on tuesdays (10 PM GMT) there is a good US Drama starting (has been shown on satellite) called 'Sleeper Cell', supposed to be on par with 24. Its about a muslim FBI agent (don't laugh
) working undercover
Our American friends know this one.

Didnt like A Scanner Darkly myself, thought it was the longest 90 mins(or whatever it was) of my life. Only good thing about it was the credits..(.thom yorke song) If your into that comic turn movie thing you'll prob like it. Wasnt even nearly as good as Sin city (not same film I know) but technically I mean.

Looking forward to "a scanner darkly", mostly because I've always liked the book... Don't care much for the animation process, but then I'll watch it on DVD so it might be easier.
Hard book to adapt, by the way...
"Good night and good luck" was very good I thought. It's probably a decent cousin to "network", even though the writing's not on par with the older film.
"Syriana" is more difficult to judge because there aren't very many movies touching those subjects, so as such (a kind of rare bird) I'd have to give it good marks.

Marina,
I have to admit that American television lost me years ago. I think the last regular show I watched was M.A.S.H. and Star Trek. I don't have cable so all I get are a couple of broadcast stations. So I've not seen The Grid, though if Netflix has it, I might check it out.
The last series I watched (on DVD) came from your side of the pond. I'm fond of Spooks, Foyle's War, Prime Suspect and whatnot.
