Whilst sorting through a few things recently, I came across a small plaque which was given to me many years ago by my great uncle.
This plaque is made from metal recovered from one of the crashed gliders used at Arnham and commemorates those brave lads of the 1st Airborne Division.
My uncle's son ( my fathers cousin ) was killed on the Rhine one week before the war in Europe ended, whilst serving with the 9th Battallion, and is buried in Hamburg Cemetary.
I was always led to believe that he was at Arnham and was one of those successful in the breakout, however , I have read recently that the 9th Battalion was formed mainly from Essex Regiments as a Special Forces battallion for the invasion of Normandy.
My question?. Does anyone know if the 9th Battalion was involved at Arnham.

All replies there were pretty constructive. Hope you're not meaning to imply a gentle reminder about the board rules and a subject close to the hearts of the parachute regiment was not a pertinent response...Delboy wrote:Got 1

Question,?9th Battalion

I very seldom venture from the Retreat or Bunker and your post reminds me why .
As a former serving Royal Marine, I too served with pride in many conflicts around the world and most of the places I served in I can't Farkin spell either.
If people I respect, like Tab, Got 1 or Ronnie etc who have served, or are still serving in the Parachute Regiment want to have a pop at me ,fair enough, but I won't accept patronising shite from a self righteous, self opinionated arsehole who until he is qualified to do so should not give unqualified advice.

Wasn't intended to be partonising. If you want to take it that way then do so. My post was in defence of going grey as i feel that it was a constructive post. If you have any other issues with me then feel free to PM me so this thread doesn't degenerate into a slagging match.Delboy wrote:Sonne
