In Canada, only widows are allowed to wear their dead husband's medals. It's illegal for anyone else to wear them. It's also illegal to wear military uniform/accouterments/badges, etc., without entitlement.

"At first we thought it was a bit funny because he doesn't look like he could fight his way out a wet paper bag.

It included the claim that he was "thought of as a hero that the UK and NATO can look to in times of trouble".
:D

Sad git

Is he open to any form of prosecution?

If he is so commited to stating he is army then why not send a couple of MP's (the coppers not the poloticians) round to his workplace. Slap some cuffs on him and charge him with some fictional charge (stealing the keys to the underwater-indoor-upsidedown grenade range would be fitting), might change his tune being dragged out of Dell and off to Colchester?

Or better yet parachute him into Iran they just love Brit SF, apparantly. :o

This is a complete insult to the men and women who have risked their lives in the line of duty. What the hell does he get out of it all. This is an example of one extremely sad and somewhat messed up man.

As said, down here this is a criminal offence. Prosecutions are not common because offenders usually get a bit of a spanking which makes them shut the fark up. There is a dedicated web site called ANZMI.com which stands for Australian and New Zealand Military Impostor. They check out Walters and do some pretty thorough research into the fraud. Service History’s are relatively easy to check and the obvious start point is Reg Number. What ANZMI want is evidence that they can use to expose the Walt and force them to make public apologies to all and sundry.
We are involved with a geezer down here who has been told in no uncertain terms that his presence is no longer required at any of our Do`s. One of our Members is in touch with ANZMI and the process takes time because of the checks they make. Several of us, myself included, are to make sworn affidavits stating what this man has said to us and what caused us to become suspicious. I will say that for a former Member of HGC he has no range discipline, no concept of the five principles, no idea of range safety, loading automatic pistols, stoppage drills etcetera. At an abseil day he showed no skill or ability with ropes whatsoever, was afraid of height, had no understanding of how a figure of eight relates to a rope showed not even a basic understanding of how an abseil stance is run, and provided a so-called "abseil rope" which was anything but.
He`s been contacted by ANZMI and our guy has had the quiet word with him. He started saying he was "only TA attached", but we know different. He`s shitting himself, which is all part of ANZMI`s softening-up routine before they “out” him on their site. He will have to go to each Service Org that he has insulted and publicly apologise and once all that has been done he will very likely face prosecution.
The RSLs down here(same as RBLs) take a very dim view of Walts, for sure. Once someone is outed on the website that`s the rest of their life farked up bigtime because everyone will know what they did. 8)

I must be getting old. Looking at the other side of the coin for a mo'...

Yes, it is a gross insult to those who have served when some idiot tries to pass themselves off as having been in the mob. I agree that laws are necessary to stop such people and I beleive that these people should be outed and punished.

But, as someone who fancies himself as a bit of an armchair psychologist, I cannot help but feel that some of these people are just lost. Someone above desribed this lastest Walt as a "sad git". I think that sums it up nicely. Many of these types are indeed sad, lost, desperately insecure, and suffering from a deep sense if inadequacy. Key word there is "suffering", because surely anyone who feels they have to resort to such measures to improve their lot in life or how they feel must be acting out of sheer deperation. Not to broad-brush the issue; I'm sure also that there are others who do it for a lark, others still who are real con artists, and some who just like the idea (if only they'd had the wherewithall to try it for real).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not for one minute defending these people. It's just that there are many and varied reasons for why people do the crazy things they do and, for me, it seems all too easy to simply join in with the mob cry, "Hang 'im!", before we know the story behind the "truth". Perhaps, for instance, the guy in this latest case has psychological problems. I would tend to believe that anyone who put up such a shirade (let alone actually believe they could get away with it) must have a bit of a head space and timing issue.

Punish him? Sure, and make a public spectacle of it to deter others. But give the guy some trick cyclist time, too. See if they can't get to the bottom of the guy's problem. Surely, our respective societies have long ago passed beyond the point of disposable humans, where we threw into assylums people with depression, anxiety, or any one of a myriad other mental illnesses? I'd certainly like to hope so, otherwise our troops with PTSD, etc., would still be trying to fumble through life on their own. If the people who make up our society are truly our most valuable commodity, then surely we should try to fix them and get them running right rather than just writing them off like garbage?

Rush of blood to the head subsided. Soap box a gonner. Industrial strength pallets on order.
