Quote by Pythagoras ...

It is better wither to be silent, or to say things of more value than silence. Sooner throw a pearl at hazard than an idle or useless word; and do not say a little in many words, but a great deal in a few.

I've seen the film a great number of times but Nicholson in 'A Few Good Men' is simply sublime;

Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and curse the Marines; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives.
You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Just received the following and quite liked them,

People seem to enjoy things more when they know a lot of other people have been left out of the pleasure.

Good and decent people must be protected and persuaded by gentle means, but the rabble must be led by terror.

Couple of my favourites;

"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."
Winston Churchill.

"When a man says money can do anything, that settles it: he hasn't got any."
George Bernard Shaw

"I always turn to the sports pages first, which records people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures."
Earl Warren - American Judge.

"I feel that retired generals should never miss an opportunity to remain
silent concerning matters for which they are no longer responsible."
- General H. Norman Schwarzkopf

At a prewar diplomatic conference, the Nazi Foreign Minister Ribbentrop "sniffed" to Eden and Churchill that if there was another war, the Italians would be on Germany's side!
To which Churchill supposedly replied: "that seems only fair, we had them last time!"...
"When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pussy."

Democracy is three wolves and a sheep voting on dinner.

In a republic the flock gets to vote on which wolves vote on dinner.

In a constitutional republic voting on dinner is forbidden and the sheep are armed.

The federal government is the means by which the sheep will be fooled into believing in democracy.

Liberty is three hungry wolves out for dinner and encountering a well-infromed, well-armed sheep.

"I'm a pacifist between wars and a vegetarian between meals."

-Yours truly. Although I'm pretty sure I plagiarized this from someone, but I can't remember who that someone was!

can't remember the name of the following woman but the quote's funny.

Lady speaker: 'Sir, if i was your wife i'd put poison in your tea'
Winston Churchill: 'madam, if was your husband i'd drink it'.

I think the qoute came after a heated argument at the house of lords.
