Post by chris78290 »

Allright fellas (and lasses)

Quick question for your good selves; can someone tell me where the Grenadier Guards are based, believe it or not their website fails to give this information and I need to know for something i'm doing.

Cheers for your help.

Well you got the right person, as I ama Grenadier Guardsman!!

The 1st Batt is based at Victoria Barracks in Windsor while the 2nd Batt is Wellington Barracks in central london, although its only company size and its main role is public duties. Anything else you want to know, i'll try to answer.

Nah we only have 2 Bn's, and the 2nd one is only company sized and its main role is public duties. I am unfortunaly doing public duties, guarding all the Queens palaces etc. To be honest its easy work, a stag a day while on guard and thats you done for the day. I am in the boxing team though and preparing for my fight in 2 weeks times, so all i do is box with the odd guard thrown in. Once i finish that its off to Warcop for a week and a half doing what i enjoy best, live firing :D.

Are the grenadiers mechanised infantry or light infantry, i'm not sure if i'm phrasing this correctly (forgive me, i'm a navy boy)...

Also just a trivial question for you, while guardsmen wear bearskins, do officers also wear them, or do they have an alternative....??

Thanks for your time,

Chris

No, we are on Public duties at the mo, so i suppose light role as we also do Op Tours while fulfilling this role. In April we move to Aldershot in the Mechanised role for 3 years i think.

Officers have bearskins also, but they are a bit different in that they are really long, you can tell the difference when you see one compared to a Guardsman or NCO's skin.

Spoke to a Guards member at the AFCO. Apart from being told that it is the finest regiment in the Army, he also said that next year they were moving to Aldershot and after that, overseas for a deployment.
