Uniform

Post by Gazeibo »

Good evening people :)

Just wondering how well equipped the army fit you with your unifrom with all the talk of soldiers lacking with the equipment/uniform needed to operate and live effectively on exercise/tour. I'm looking to join the army and that popped into my head and it got me to think so i thought i'd ask people in the know.

would they provide plenty webbing and a decent sized bergen? or just enough for what you will 'need'.

a response would be much appreciated.
thanks

Plently of webbing? Eh?
No, you get issued a fixed amount and a standard bergan. Everyone else can fit in it all that they need so I guess you'll be able to.
You have enough kit, just not the fancy new stuff like gucci GPS kit... radios that are not brilliant (they work but could be better). etc etc
Drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed...

[ some of the older members on the forum might remember when sleeping bags were not issued you just used a couple of blankets. A lot depends on your role if you have to carry it with you all the time you soon trim down the excess.[/quote]

"A couple of blankets", that will be right :)
One Blanket L/W and a cape (poncho with buttons down the front) . Froze your bits off if you didn't buddie buddie, better still was to get three people together, if you were really lucky you got in the middle.
Reminds me when we got a new Pln Com and he was to embarressed to buddie buddie, he was white with frost in the morning :D
You live and learn. If your lucky.

Got 1 yes I remember the light weight blanket and poncho well. When i have been at Dover with the lads they seem to use what ever takes there fancy. They buy the gear that they are most comfortable with, and it all seems to be quite acceptable, there was a time that I can remember that if you turned up in anything not issued you would be heading right for guard room.

Too right,Tab, the kit you were issued was the one you wore, and woe-betide you if you were caught wearing Mickey Mouse bracers, or soft cotton underwear. The vest and pants,Woollen, were a sight to behold and a penance to wear. No fancy sleeping bags, blanket and water-proof cape, plus a gas cape, remember that useless piece of crap, all ideal for a night on the moor in mid-winter. Happy daze. :P :P

You get issued all the kit such as body armour, and webbing and bergan as standard as you need it to pass training. But don't expect it to be brand new issue stuff, mine must of seen about 20 platoons before me i swear. Its does the jobs, but don't go leaps and bounds like the gucci kit that you can buy does. I only use issue stuff, because i am a cheap c@#t and why should i pay for things?? I have got a softie and a Daysack, but nothing major like chest webbing or anything.
