Before I begin I would like to point out that my rather foolish and rushed post on the comm forum and the subsequent slap on the wrists from SB have served to teach me a lesson and so you may assume, correctly, from the title of this post that I did indeed rescue a homeless man from a vicious assault on Saturday night.
I went out for an all day sesh with my mates on saturday to watch the rugby and football. At about 9pm I began to wane a little, I had been "ill" in the toilet and was loud and obnoxious - not abusive I hasten to add.
One incident too far and I was ordered home by my girlfriend, following 2 friends whom had already left, leaving one asleep in the pub and another dribbling over a poor young student who had no idea who he was.
As I walked towards the taxi rank I thought I'd walk, it's only a 20 minutes and I thought I needed the fresh air.
As I was approaching the square, there was some commotion by a phone booth. I looked over and there was a guy standing amongst a big group of teenagers being quite animated.
As I moved past the booth I got a better look, there were about 12 or so kids of which half were girls. The lads of the group were stood in a horseshoe around this big bloke and were insulting him, whilst he was ranting back and waving his arms around. As it transpired he was trying to scare them off - it didn't work.
I was about to turn away and crack on with the walk up the hill when the bloke turned and shoved one the lads. The response was the gang set upon him, throwing punches into his face and head.
I turned and ran in yelling and swearing at the gang, pushing and pulling them off and much to my surprise, and relief, they stopped and allowed me to pull the big chap away from them. A big issue pass had fallen on the ground, along with copies of the magazines and some of his skag needles. It suddenly dawned on me what had happened.
I proceeded to lecture the gang of kids on the rights and wrongs of assaulting people and making judgements simply because others appear less fortunate. I also pointed out to them that because he was a drug addict didn't mean he was fair game. It was wrong of them to target the weak and they were wrong to do what they did.
Admittedly by the time I'd finished ranting at them half the blokes had run off because the homeless bloke had gone to fetch the Police.
I waited for them to arrive, briefly yelled at the homeless bum because he got a chip on his shoulder about something or other and informed the police of what had happened, including several times that I was drunk and had been for most of the day.
I was then informed by the Police that this gang had beaten up at least 5 other people over the weekend and that they were being a real problem. I did, for a moment, wish I'd gone in and just bashed the lot of them up but that wouldn't have helped at all. I was satisfied that I didn't have to fight and noone was seriously hurt.
The guy that was assaulted didn't take too much of a beating fortunately because I was so close when it kicked off and only had a couple of bruises and a cut to the head that bled heavily.
That was my good deed and my only complaint now is that the Police haven't called me yet which leads me to believe the attackers have again gotten away with it.
Oh and they were all Chavs too . . . .
Hurrah for me!!!

Regardless of yourself putting yourself down TT you did something most people would not even consider doing. So well done mate.
To many times you read in the paper where someone such as yourself has stepped in and nine times out of ten they are the poor sods in the cack.
So once more well done.

Some kids started clapping when I was jogging past them, I stopped and threw one over the cemetry wall and kept on running. I have an immense dislike for gobby kids, and waste no time in letting them know I`m bigger and older than them.AequitasBellum wrote:Well done that man!
Klink is definitely right about the putting down of kids like that.
Perhaps we should form a MF vigilante death squad?
Should have steak knifed them.T T Fresh wrote:I wouldn't like to think SB, though I suspect "running" and "away" may have been the words of the day. As for Moral courage, you'll find it was probably dutch on this occaision.
All's well that ends well
