NEW INTERACTIVE WEBSITE FOR SERVICE FAMILIES

The families of Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel will have access to a virtual communication centre after the launch of a new website on Monday 4 February.

The website is the inspiration of the Association for Royal Naval and Royal Marines Families. Association members will be able to keep in touch with other members throughout the world on the instant messaging page. Families who log on will be able to take part in polls and read through news and information, which will complement the Association’s magazine “Blue and Green Family Scene”.

Internet co-ordinator Julie Rae said: “The site means that we will be available online to anyone who requires our advice. Although the other service associations have websites ours is the first to offer a forum facility.”

The website will be formally launched by Captain David Larmour, Captain Base Personnel at the Crownhill Family Centre in Plymouth, when service families will get the first glimpse of what is on offer.

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Families Association was set up following an approach to the Ministry of Defence by service families. Ministers and the Navy Board endorsed the idea and the association was launched in 1998 to help foster contact between the Ministry of Defence and service families. The Association now acts as a lobby group on behalf of service families taking issues forward via the Service Families Taskforce to Ministerial level with the aim of guiding policies and legislation for the benefit of the families.
